  1. Yours looks mint! This has a few battle scars, I'm tempted to take it into my local luthier and see how much a touch-up would be, I really like things to look shiney and new (sad as that might sound) Can you T-cut pickguards? That sounds like a cheaper option! Finn, I'm already part of that forum, that was one of my tenticles stretching out in search of a nice one! Dont suppose you want a lovely black pearl pickguard to go with that lovey bass of yours??!!
  2. Yeah, I prefer it with the black pickguard, even though I'm now missing a couple of screws... :/ To be honest, I've just read/heard good things about La Bella so as I'm taking the flatwound plunge, I figured I'd try the best. After having a fiddle through my Emu/PC/monitors, I dont know whether it needs flats, it's got a really fat rounded low end anyway... I'll have to see how the cash situation is after I've had it set up and maybe got a new black pickguard so it's all shiny!
  3. I told a lie, according to most owners, the T-40 weighs about 5kgs.
  4. Thanks for the comments guys! The shipping weight was just under 10kgs so I assume it's about 7-7.5kgs, it's fairly hefty. To be honest, my mate borrowed me his "Mazeti" (what are they? anyone know anything about them?) les paul ish copy for practice the other night and the Peavey isnt as heavy as that was! It's got a very reasuring feel about it, needs a setup, I like a low action and this is setup quite high at the moment. That can get sorted when I get my La Bella flats on it! I should get to play it in anger tonight, so I'll let you know how it sounds through my GK 810 and RB2000.
  5. Pickguard advice duly noted! I'll whip this one off tonight and post some more photos. Total cost $450 shipped from New York and charges of just under £40 (bit of fiddling ) so what, £280 for a great condition vintage bass!
  6. Just landed from Pennsylvania, my new Peavey T-40. Dont know what you guys think about the plate? I've got the original black one too so, I'll have to make a decision...
  7. I'd suggest clutch too, obviously.
  8. Sounds to me like a driven Ampeg. I would have thought they've double tracked it, one channel naughty like that, the other somewhat cleaner blended through the verses and chorus to keep the warm bottom end then obviously exposed for those quieter parts but whadda I know...
  9. I'm leaning toward La Bellas after doing some research so thanks for the advice everyone!
  10. Hello, sorry I'm posting all over the show at the moment! Quick question about strings, I saw that John Mayer DVD the other day (my mate manages the Bose factory store in cheshire oaks, the sound from the lifestyle 48 systems is amazing) and I think Pino plays as part of the Trio and his sound was just lovely and warm and deep and I'd love to sound similar to that. I've got the 8x10, not quite got the money for a 70s SVT yet, but one day... and I'll have a precision shortly with any luck. Anyway, would it be safe to assume that he uses Flatwounds? I've only played roundwounds in the past, so I'm not too sure what to expect. Will they still be suitable for the heavier/stonerish stuff I play? cheers for the info, Ben.

Thanks Mike, I would have well taken your Peavey in exchange too, nice looking bass..! If you come into some monies, give me a shout! In fact, if anyone wanted to make me a decent cash offer, I'd probably buy that off you outright. Are you still selling it?
  23. get a quote from www.interparcel.co.uk, they'll courier it next day for less that £30.

I'm completely skint so need to find some money somewhere so, I'm considering trading this down to something a little cheaper for the time being and buying a black on maple in the future. Here's a picture of the thing: It's a 2004 Standard Precision with the S1 Switch(!) in candy cola with a Maple neck and black scratch plate. It's in excellent condition but has some very minor marks on the rear which I'll photo if there's some serious interest, but they're hard to see unless you're looking for them, no dings at all. The neck and headstock are clean also! Steve Soar of this very forum has seen the bass and seems to like it although he suggests the nut might need replacing depending on the guage of strings you use as the grooves are fairly deep. To me, it plays great, nice low action, and sounds great too. I'm probably just looking for something Black on Maple but I'm happy to look at anything offered. I'll only let this go if I really like what's being offered, otherwise I'll just suffer this month out with no cash! Bit of confusion with the asking price so I'm after a trade plus cash, depending on what's offered or a straight cash price of say £450 to start us off. Cheers, Ben.
