That might be a bit too quiet...
But think how my poor abused ears will feel!

To warm that Elf tonal package think about adding a Compressor.
The idea is to keep it utterly minimalist. I may even reduce to one cable and a clip-on tuner!

I’m on here quite regularly nowadays, I’ve noticed so many BC’ers are fast to create drama and hostility towards each other and jump down each other’s throats, what’s the deal?
What happened to peace & love among bassists???
Certainly among the better forums I've been on, along with Cyclechat.

Completely?
Forget bass. Get a piano and start lessons.
OK, not that fresh...

Even simpler would be a QSC K8.2 (or other powered speaker of your choice). 33% fewer cables to plug in!
But heavier than the Elf-One 10...

I use a One10 with a Tecamp Puma 300 in the lounge.
Sounds good to me!
If you wanted a bit more fun though you could get the One10 and a little power amp and a Helix Stomp and then have lots of bass amp flavours to play with.
Lotta dosh for an effects box!
No, my needs are simple - the Elf will do nicely. P-bass - Elf - One 10. Job done, single carry.

It's a good rig, but the Elf is still winning in my brain...I'll never need 500W again.
-
TH350 definitely on the radar...but pricey!

Waaaaaay back in the day (1977 or 8?), I had a Roost 1x15 folded horn cab. Always sounded good!

Yup, that lounge!

Greetings and Happy New Year to you all!
Now that the rock is done and the lounge takes over, my rig is redundant. My aim is to reduce to a single-carry solution, so to that end, I'm thinking of a good gig bag for the bass, a TE Elf head, and a Barefaced One 10.
Your thoughts on any and all of these things would be much appreciated. I'll have a good rig for sale, too!

Late report on NYE. Final gig for the Rock n Roll Outlaws and we worked hard to get it spot on by missing any rehearsal and pioneering one new number during soundcheck! Total of 3.5 hours playing time, pretty damned tired afterward, but a fitting, well-played end to the band. A fine way to bow out of the rock business, quieter stuff awaits!

No problem at all unless you cane it, clipping, as stated. But electrically no issue.

I've had a couple. A very expensive Warwick Alien, and a relatively cheap Fender Kingman. The Kingman blew the Warwick away in every respect, including unplugged sound/tone.
No acoustic bass I've ever heard sounds sufficiently different to a solid to make it worth bothering, except when using the usually-supplied phosphor-bronze horror strings, which universally sound lousy. In other words, they are largely a for-the-look-of-it instrument boosted into the mainstream years ago by MTV Unplugged.
Want to sound like a double bass? Play one. I love the sound of an upright, but it's not remotely sufficient to overecome the sheer un-ease of playing one.
I can no longer play either acoustic instrument, due to shoulder injury, but the above conclusion was reached long before that. With a little luck, shoulder replacement will enable to play an acoustic guitar again, but I'll never bother with an ABG.

My favourite Rotos of all time were Superwound 505s. Pressurewound, tapered ends. This was late 70's, they weren't around for long, very pricey at the time. But very nice!

Have Chromes on a Yamaha BB414 and Cobalt flats on a P. Price is similar, as is sound. Initially, the Cobalts a very bright, as they should be, they are a round with a ribbon overwound. But as with both brands, after a couple of yoears, they both just sound like nice flats!
Edited to add that I'd buy either of these again, but now the rock band's finished, probably Chromes.

Used Roto RB40s for years, liked the priced and the fact that they were unsilked. Two sets per year per bass. Then got into flats, and I'm not going back. Roto flats too stiff and heavy, so that's it for me and Rotosound. However, IMHO, good rounds and a good company to deal with.

Have played several gigs with mine now. There has been the occasional dropout, but repositioning, and learning these foibles, has reduced that to zero by the last gig. I have only one more gig with the rock band, the grand NYE finale at Tavistock Wharf. Will see how it pans out for battery life there, that gig will be one 90-minute and one of around 120.

Why would you buy something that doesn't give you scope to expand in the future?
Because in my case, the future isn't expanding. This will simply do the job I need it to do. No point in overthinking it if I don't need to!
Edit: and money is also an issue, so this solves a problem without breaking the (very tightly constrained) bank.

The latency is only important if it affects you. If, for whatever reason, you don't notice it, then it's irrelevant...
If something in your setup changes and you begin to notice, then fine, react to it. Otherwise: rock on!

Back to the original question: I used one of these the other night, and it was fine. I am usually on top of my amp, and my cables are in need of replacing, because I'm always standing on the damn things. So I like being untethered, no matter what. Even if I'm sat on the amp. I use no other pedals whatever except a tuner, occasionally not even that, so didn't notice latency. Our younger guitarist was also using one, and his pedalboard has its own postcode, with LOTS of effects, analogue and digital. No noticeable latency, and no crosstalk between the two.
I've ordered a gold one direct from China, £26 delivered. I'll also be having a dead Smoothhound for repairs and see if I can resuscitate it.

I think the premise is largely true. The endless gear hunt stops when you realise what it is you want from gear, then get the gear that will achieve that. If it's pricey, so be it, but as you won't be buying any more, what does it matter? I've got a good rig, which I like. It will go soon to be downsized (age/need). My bass is a Fender hybrid I put together myself, and it all just works. I plug in and go, no pedals except a tuner. These days, I could probably halve the size of my car...

You won't regret it, if you like your classic rock you'll love it. I used to go and see them many years ago before my Basschat days
BTW, your singer will be back @Telebass, a ginger can't last song in the Australian sun :D.
He's been before, and knows the drill!

Tina Weymouth BBC bass programme in Jan
in General Discussion
Posted
Whoever was featured, whoever presented, the programme wasn't made by anyone who had much of a clue about bass.
Just like the general public, in fact...
Still enjoyed it, just for its acknowledgement of our existence, if nothing else!
