2. Thanks. I generally prefer fretted 4 strings and fretless 5 strings.
 3. Thanks. The photos don't do it justice. It also feels nice - it has some texture, unlike most basses.
 4. Price reduced to [s]£850[/s] [s]£750[/s] [s]£650[/s] [s]£600[/s] [s]£550[/s] £500 For Sale / Trade: Esh Sovereign IV (with piezo) in Sanded Black Satin http://www.esh-bass....emid=62&lang=en Bought new two years ago. Studio use only. A beautiful instrument handmade in Germany and costing around £1200 new. The neck is fast and the action is really excellent. It's an extremely lightweight and comfortable bass to play. The Esh-Tronic system works very well with lots of tonal variation and a direct out for studio use. The EMG 35DCs supply the growl and top end. The piezo pickup produces plenty of low (almost sub) bottom end (unlike other piezo pickups) and adds a whole other dimension to the sound, thickening it up subtly (can be adjusted) but very nicely. Also features:

Rosewood fretboard
Schaller tuning heads
Graphite nut
3-Ply unvarnished maple neck with walnut stripe
Unique sanded black satin finish
In absolutely mint condition. However, for transparency and fairness: on close inpsection, there's a small mark on the top of the headstock, and also on the side of the fretboard near the nut, but neither are noticable or affect playability.

There's a review in BGM here: http://www.esh-bass....eign_may_09.pdf
A diagram that explains the controls in more detail is here: http://www.esh-bass....emid=66&lang=en
The neck dimensions are here: http://www.esh-bass....easurements.pdf. A quick check of mine seems to agree: 41mm wide (and 21 mm deep) at the nut.
A hardcase can be negotiated, if required. Pickup or insured delivery by courier (price not included and subject to location). I'd prefer to sell, but would consider trading (plus or minus any difference) for:

Musicman Stingray 4 HH
Musicman Stingray 4 or 5 fretless
Spector Euro or NS with a standard neck profile
Any tasty fretless 5 with loads of mwah
US Fender Tele or Strat
I also have a Spector for sale here (now sold).
 5. Plenty of interest from other Euro owners. Some tempting trades on the table, but nothing agreed as yet so still open to other offers.
 6. I've got one and it gets plenty of use. Loads of attack from the bolt-on neck.
 7. [SOLD!!] Spector Euro 4LX Doug Wimbish in High Gloss Ultra Amber http://www.spectorba...re/wimbish.html Bought new just over a year ago. Studio use only. Nice action and lovely to play. A wide range of sounds from the EMGs and lots of control via the Tonepump pre. The neck is narrower and deeper than a standard Euro 4. The sustain on this bass is like a piano! It is in superb condition, virtually as new. However, for transparency and fairness: on close inspection, the gold on the E and A saddles and that side of the bridge has faded slightly (from lots of pick style playing). There's a tiny dunt on the top of the headstock, but the paintwork is intact (Wasn't able to capture it with the camera). There's also a small blemish in the gloss on the back of the body (present when I bought it). Comes with "original" jiffy bag, containing two allen keys and gold straplocks. A hardcase can be negotiated, if required. Pickup or insured delivery by courier (price not included and subject to location). I'd prefer to sell, but would consider trading (plus or minus any difference) for:

Musicman Stingray 4 HH
Other Spectors - Euro or NS with a standard neck profile
A tasty fretless 5 with loads of mwah (preferably unlined)
US Tele or Strat
I also have an Esh for sale here.
 8. My lovely Esh Sovereign.
 9. Great thread. For me, it has to be John Martyn. Especially the albums Solid Air and One World.
 10. I picked up my first fretless - a Vintage v940fl a while back from these very forums. Having stripped it right down and started again, I'm very pleased with the setup and the feel - the neck is great. This thing has helped me to rediscover bass playing all over again! The only issue is the sound. It uses Wilkinson PJ pups and active electronics, and there have obviously been corners cut - it's only a budget instrument. It sounds lovely unplugged... What sort of sound am I looking for? To be honest, this is probably my sticking point. I want a nice Jaco mwaaah, but I also love the aggressive sound of my Spector Rebop (emg passive HZs with tone pump). Is this a complete contradiction? Right now, the fretless sounds limp and pathetic next to the Spector. Anyway, I've been looking at the EMG PJ set (active), the PJX set(super active), or maybe even the PJHZ set (passive a la the Rebop). I'd also like to replace the electronics, so thinking about the EMG BTS System (active - master, balance, treble and bass). Would I notice a big difference in sound between the active and passive pups? Is there a general charactaristic that sets them apart? I realize deciding on such things is very subjective, but any advice or suggestions (for an obviously confused soul) would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
 11. Thanks Hector. A pleasure doing business with you. Have another bump.
 12. And here we all are getting to know each other.
 13. Thanks for all your comments. You wouldn't believe the number of times I've changed by mind on this one over the last few days. If anything I was probably erring on the side of selling, but I've decided to hang in there for now. I'm not convinced the neck profile is right for me, but I like the rest of it so much that I couldn't let it go. For the record, the Rebop neck width is the same as the Euro at 1.64". I'm still interested in picking up a good condition Legend 4 Classic if anyone is selling...
