Practice routine

You know, I was practising walking over Rhythm Changes in key of Gb (I was going through all the keys, little by little..) just before my last week 'tourist' journey to Germany with my girl (I was dragged kicking and screaming, mind you..) - and, walking over those changes was so easy.

Now, I was off to Germany for 4 days, and then, I finally got to practise only after 6 days 'break'.. It was yesterday, when tried to rush trough the same changes - same key, same tempo, after 8 bars or so, I stopped, and, WOW..

They were like all new to me, and, hmmmm, key of Gb, you see..!!!

I had to re-work all the stuff, little by little, bar by bar, just to get it where I was (!) (hopefully..), not to talk about progress..

Now this really showed me, how practise routine is important (I was practising those changes for a few weeks each day, 20 minutes..) - well, at least, it's better than to shed for one random day, 3 hours, isn't it..

Have you faced anything like this in your practice?
