In my experience the 300 watt amp is a great amp, I have the 2x8 300 watt combo and it is very good indeed ( paid a bargain £100 on ebay!) I also have the 600 watt head which is also very good and a matching 4x 8 speaker cab. As for price, because very few people know how good this range was they are dirt cheap unfortunalty. There was a 600watt one on ebay for £150 which is a absolute steal defo worth getting even for use as a back up amp. ( I am having a clear out so will be selling most of my gear to partly finance a new small compact/ light rig.
