EMG 40 series - uncomfortable.

I love EMGs. I love how they look, but more importantly, I love how they sound. I have a 40CS and a 40DC in my main bass and I'm debating putting in two 40Ps in my backup.

But....


I usually rest my thumb on the pickups. EMGs have a bit removed for the screw, as in this:


and I find it really rather uncomfortable. I don't want to put a thumbrest on the bass as this would move my thumb higher than it wants to be, which is on the pickup. Sticking blutack there is a possible solution, but will probably not be very effective and I don't think I'd want something sticky there. Filling the gap with a more permanent solution will mean I can't access the screw.

Any ideas? I suppose even other pickups might be a good idea, but I'll need that EMG sound which, I assume, is only available from EMG!

Move your finger a tiny bit to the right or left?

You could try getting a thin bit of plastic and taping it to the side of the pickup, then you could still access the screw without even taking it off.

I would see if the rubber from a pencil, probably a propelling pencil, would fit in the hole. Trim with a craft knife to suit.
