Ashdown RPM and Digitech 2120

Does anyone know if it is safe (for the 2120) for a bass to be plugged into the RPM1 preamp, then the high pass output to feed into the input of the 2120? Can't seem to get any joy from Ashdown or Digitech on the matter.
Does the RPM1 actually put out an amplified signal that may damage the effects unit?
Thanks.

Is the 2120 all that amplified?

If it runs at line level then don't plug it into the input of the RPM it would have to run in the fx loop.

I'll have a look at both online and tell you what you are best doing.

I assume you are biamping? and want to effect the highs and lows separately?

Cheers

But what you are doing seems like it will create some feedback by refeeding it between the 2 units.

Can you explina in more depth what you are trying to do.
Thanks and yes I want to biamp...

I want to run the Buzzard direct into the RPM1 then run a line out into the 2120 from the high crossover. Then from the 2120 into an Ashdown Mag300 effects return then into a Hartke 4x10. The bass crossover into a Behringer effects unit then into a TE 1x15 combo effects return. Thereby I can have whatever effects I want on the high and low.....
I know John used the RPM1 effects loop for his 2120, but I can't figure how he'd have applied the effects to just the highs!

Right the only other thing I could come up with was that he set the Eq parameters within the 2120 unit to just apply to the highs. But (not doubting what you say) why the Alembic signal splitter and how did he get the clean bottom end and distorted high end all at once? >puzzled look!< And if the RPM1 doesn't put out an amplified signal, it should be OK to plug into the 2120?
Easy bass into rpm fx send to 2120 line level input to 1st amp eq'd for highs then rpm normal output to amp 2 eq'd for lows this is you're rpm sending 2 identical signals to be processed differently
OK... you can tell this is all new to me! I will be using the 2 amps merely as Power Amps so the EQ on those will be bypassed. The preamp will provide the EQ. Ashdown have told me the crossover outputs from the RPM1 need to be connected to the effects return of each amp to avoid damage...
Yours sincerely,
Confused from Derbyshire!!!! ;-)

Might be easier for you to show me as you say.... hopefully next week sometime when the RPM gets to me.....!

True going through the fx return would bypass the preamp and most likely be safer but that's not to say you can't have a very guitar style eq on on the 2120 :)

Garethox, I don't believe Entwistle actually had the 2120 and the Ashdown RPM-1 hooked up together. I think the "Who Gear" website says he did but I don't think that's correct. From everything I've heard from 1999-2002 it really sounds like he was running the 2120 into one set of amplifiers and cabinets for distortion and the Ashdown into another set of amplifiers and cabinets for a complete, full-range clean sound.

Here's an interview where he describes how his system is set up: http://gc.guitarcenter.com/interview/thewho/ He says here the Ashdown RPM-1 and Digitech/Line 6 stuff were sent to different amplifiers for complete seperation of distortion and cleans.

We all know the sound he had for the 5:15 solo from the Royal Albert Hall DVD and how much distortion and chorus it has, but if you listen to that track from the CD, it's just the clean signal that got recorded but it's definitely full-range: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rJ-dDg59I-Q

Thanks for that. I pretty much got it sorted. I biamp using a Morley aby - My 2120 goes into the Ashdown Mag300 then into a Hartke 4x10. This setup has the highs running through it and that signal is the signal I add different effects settings to. The low side I put through a TE 300W 15" combo and I run that clean.

Sounds great. I use different styles of distortion for different era's of The Who.

I look forward to reading the article..... cheers!
