Hope you don't mind me asking, but I'm sure you're all familiar with the feeling that after a couple of hours' mixing, your ears aren't really "listening" any more! So I've come to ask for a fresh set of ears on this.

I feel like the mix for this song is "getting there," but something needs tweaking, or EQing differently, and I can't place what. Penny for your thoughts:

Hey.
Vocal is very up front and sounds quite dry. I’d definitely drop out back a bit and look at your compression settings.
Drums again dry and a bit flat but it’s hard to tell briar they are a bit buried. Have you got a drum bus with some parallel processing going on? Just to help liven them up a bit. Maybe smash the OHs a bit!
It’s hard to say without knowing what you’re going for.

Thank you, it's really helpful to get a fresh perspective on it! I should have said, I was using The Doors' When the Music's Over as a reference...though I think I've deviated from it a fair bit.

I think you're right about the vocal - I was trying to give the track a bit of 'bite' but I probably went too hard on the compressor. (Perhaps this would work better on a parallel track?)

Good shout on parallel processing the drums as well. The drummer did send me an extra track where he'd added some distortion to the whole kit: might try squashing that and bringing it up just under the main drum bus.

Thanks again!
