Kind of old school, and yet kind of useful. I used it to connect an iPad to a midi keyboard to have loads of synthy fun for not much money. Obv, I have been sucked in to more expensive stuff by now. It is the way of the world. But even Garage Band will provide you with myriad patches which are totally useable.

 

Or you could use it as and audio interface.

 

Lightning connector. iPad mini or standard. 

 

Lots of fun for pennies.
