Trading in one or more basses is an option, see below for trade options.*

Up for sale/trade is my Skjold Greyling 5, built in December 2021.

This is a no-frills, boutique bass built by one of the most highly regarded bass guitar builders in the world.

Pete Skjold is best known for his rather modern-looking and sounding custom basses, but he himself is a huge fan of old-school, passive bass tones.
So when he decided to finally design a bass guitar for himself that could produce all those vintage, passive bass tones, he naturally went for it all the way, and the Greyling was the result.

Even though he designed the bass for himself and had no intention of putting it into production, some of his friends and customers who had played the bass were so impressed with the tone and build quality of this instrument that they asked him to build one for them as well, and so he eventually offered the Greyling as an order option to other customers as well.

- Super comfortable 33" scale length,
but with a tight, great sounding B-string.

- Quadcoil pickup with 4 pickup selector switch.
(Precision pickup, Series, Parallel or reverse precision pickup).

- 3-piece body made of the finest mahogany.
- Symmetrical neck made of quartersawn roasted maple.

- Fretboard made of Indian rosewood.

- Evo gold frets.

- 1x volume and 1x tone control + pickup selector switch.

- Special satin finish that beautifully shows the wood grain.

- Includes a very elegant, sturdy Skjold gigbag.

- Pleasantly lightweight, weighing in at 3.85kg.

If you’re looking for a passive, vintage sounding instrument, but with the best hardware, ergonomics and build quality on the market today, then this is the bass for you.

The new price for the Greyling 5 was 4400 USD and after shipping, import fees and customs charges a new one would
cost you +-5700Euro/4934GBP today.

Asking price/trade value in Euro: 3495 Euro

Condition is still as good as new except for some superficial scratches on the underside of the body, under the bridge which are probably the result of an oversight while changing the strings.

The bass has just had a full checkup and professional setup and is fitted with a fresh set of Thomastik JF 345 flatwound strings which give the bass a very warm, beautiful sound and make the bass play like butter

In short; It’s a very comfortable instrument with a beautiful, warm sound that fits perfectly in a band setting. The four-position quad-coil pickup selector makes it a very versatile instrument, despite the fact that the electronics are completely passive.

Why am I selling it?
Well, I’d like to try something new, and the Skjold is currently my only bass. I’d like to get more variety in basses and sounds instead of  having my entire bass budget invested in one bass.

What am I looking for?
5-string basses, with a scale length no longer than 34",
fretted or fretless with lines.

Some brands that I am a fan of or curious about:
Sandberg, Mayones, Sadowsky (metro), Musicman, Marleaux, Mensinger, Monkey Bassness, ACG, Overwater, Status

Also trading two cheaper basses (e.g. 1 fretted and 1 fretless) for the Skjold is an option, just send me a message if you have a proposal and we’ll see if it works out. ;)
