  1. Update for the people that are interested in replacing their Sire tuners with the Gotoh GB528 Res-o-lites; they are indeed drop in replacements, feel super sturdy and they brought the total weight of the bass (Sire P5R from the review) down from 4,34kg to 4,09kg, taking about 250gr of weight away from the headstock which is definitely noticable when playing. Here's a picture of the back of the headstock after installing the Gotoh's. 😉
  2. I just checked and it seems like the cream white ones have sold out since I wrote this review. They still have the tobacco burst and natural finished ones in stock, but those finishes are slightly more expensive. The white P5R from the review is definitely staying with me as I like it more everyday. I was planning on putting in a Lollar pickup, but the original pickup sounds so good that I'm just gonna put some lighweight tuners on the bass and leave the rest stock. I had a Fender American pro Ii in my sights, but this P5R made me cancel that purchase because to me the Sire feels better in almost every way. 😉 (And it left me with enough money in my budget to buy some fancy fx pedals.. 😜😅)
  3. If you ever decide to sell that one let me know. I'm also hunting for the full set. 😉
  4. Forgot to mention one important detail: The B-string is supersolid on both, every note is clean as a bel, the tension feels just right and the B is nice and tight. 🙂👌

So now that we've got the technical details out of the way we can move on to the actual review. 🙂 First up I'ld like to mention that the changes Sire made to the pickups and necks are really taking these basses to the next level. Both the newly designed P and J pickups (for the passive series) have a significant amount of extra lows and low mids and sound less "thin" and "modern" than the previous versions which already sounds like a big improvement to my ears. Also, the roasted maple necks with the satin finish on the back and the rolled fretboard edges make playing these basses so easy and comfortable that the neck-feel alone almost justifies the cost of buying one (or more) of these basses. The V5 neck has a nice tint to it that lies somewhere in between a dark roasted neck (like the one on the P5R) and a lighter roasted neck as you can find on many of the V5's and has some very nice grain and even some striped patterns in there you usually only find on more expensive "grade A" maple necks. The neck on the V5 is noticably slimmer than the beautifully dark roasted maple neck on the P5, but to my surprise it's also a bit deeper, making it lean more towards a comfortable D-shaped neck whereas the P5 neck is a bit wider and feels more like a flat C-shaped neck. Personally I loved both neck profiles, with a slight preference for the P5 as I prefer wide and flat neck profiles in general. The set-up on both basses was close to perfect straight out of the box, with the action being slightly higher on the V5 24, but nothing 5 minutes of adjusting the height of the bridge saddles couldn't fix. The set-up on the P5 is as close to perfect as I've ever found on a production instrument straight out of the factory and I haven't found a reason to adjust anything on this bass so far. I literally took it out of the box, tuned the strings and started playing it, and it has been very hard to stop playing ever since. Regarding the pickups; The biggest difference here is noticable on the P5R as the original P5 pickup was a little mid forward and lacked some low-end and some warmth, while this newly designed P5R pickup (which will now also be used in the regular P5's with the maple fretboard) has plenty of low end and added warmth in the sound, which makes it more suited for more vintage sounding styles of music while still retaining the note definition and clarity needed to slice through the mix like it was butter. Even though I usually end up swapping the pickups on almost all of my Sire basses, this P5R has me wondering if I should do that this time as the pickup it comes with from factory really sounds great in a band context and might not need an upgrade at all. With the V5 pickups I can also notice a similar high roll off and some added lows when compared to the previous versions of these pickups, but the difference is less pronounced and obvious than when comparing the new P-pickup with its predecesor. The only flaws/dislikes I could find were a little discolouration on the side of the roasted maple P-neck and the fact that the end of the fretboard and the neck pickup are so close together on the 24 fret jazz bass that it can make slapping -in the right spot- a bit more of a challenge. Also, the tuners are still quite heavy causing some neck dive, but as Gotoh recently came out with some super lightweight drop in tuner replacements for these Sire basses (Gotoh GB528) replacing the tuners with some lighter and better ones now became a lot easier for the modders amongst us. All in all both basses play and sound great straight out of the box and wether you're more of a P-bass fan or a Jazz bass fan, you can't really go wrong with either of these i.m.o. Since I've grown to like the Pbass sound more than the Jbass sound over the last couple if years I couldn't help falling in love with the P5R and therefore I will be keeping this one. Considering it's one of the few decent 5-string Precision basses on the market under 2000€ and it being this good (compared to a MIA std. Precision 5 and a Fender American Pro 1 it definitely held it's own) for less than 500€ it really is a no brainer for anyone looking for an affordable 5-string Pbass i.m.o. If you're in the market for a new bass I would definitely advice checking some of these new Sire's out as you could easily be surprised with the tone and playability that these new Gen3 series have to offer. 7. Hi, I'm offering this absolutely mint Lakland Joe Osborn up for sale/trade. The bass was made in 2003, but has only been used for a couple of hours over it's life as it was part of an enormous private collection and the owner had more Laklands than he could possibly play. Hence this gem has sat in it's case for 99% of it's life and has no wear whatsoever. This one is one of the very sought after Made ik Korea models with the Lindy Fralin pickups. It also is one of the most lightweight Lakland basses i've ever laid my hands on weighing it at just 4.04kg (more recent models usually come in at 4.5kg. or more). I recently got this in a trade from a Lakland collector with a very impressive collection including a couple of other JO's, hence it's as new condition despite being 20 years old. The frets were polished to give them back their shine and as the bass was still wearing the factory strings I gave her a set-up with a fresh set of Fender flatwounds. All in all a lovely bass with the best fretwork in the business and I would'nt mind keeping her, but as I've been having serious G.A.S. for a Pbass with Jazz bass neck for a while now I'm putting this up for grabs in an effort to cure my G.A.S. Only (partial) trades I'm interested in are: - a Pbass with Jazz bass neck - Pbass body - Jazz bass neck - Tech21 VT bass D.I. - Origin effects BassRig - Xotic Bass RC Booster v2 - One Control Crimson Red - Jam Pedals Rattler The bass can be tested and picked up in Ghent, Belgium. I can ship, double boxed, safely packed and insured all over Europe/UK for around 25Euro. Feel free to give me a shout if you have anymore questions.
  8. This is an excellent player and pretty lightweight for a lakkie at 4,3kg. (Seems even lighter than my Pbass due to the excellent balance) She has been set-up with a superlow action and no buzz. 3tone sunburst, ash body, maple neck with reinforcement rods and rosewood fretboard. Lakland USA J/MM pickups and LH3 3band eq/pre-amp. Hipshot ultralite tuners. New price: 1649€ Basschat price: 1000€ In terms of trade, I am only interested in a Skyline DJ4/JO4 or an Ibanez GWB205 or GWB 20th anniversary. The bass can be picked up and tested on an Eich amps set in Ghent, Ledeberg. The bass will be well packaged and insured when shipped (within EU).
  9. Ooh, I'd love this! 😍 I used to own the 30" version of this and it was superb (although it was too short of a scale for me, so this would be perfect..) VAT would probably ruin it for me tho as I'm not in the UK, but someone should snap this up asap, these cazpar's are superb quality instruments and the neck profile is to die for!
  10. Lovely! Heve been wanting to try one of these since i first saw one over a decade ago.. Are you interested in trades by any chance?
  11. FS/FT: Lakland Skyline 44-64 custom PJ, Brand new! This just arrived this Tuesday from Bass Buddha in Denmark and it is everything you could expect from a Lakland. Great fretwork, PLEK'd at the Lakland custom shop in Chicago. Solid Lakland bridge, Hipshot Ultralite Tuners, and Lakland USA pickups. Ash body, with maple neck and Indian Rosewood fretboard with block inlays. This bass just exudes quality in all areas and you can feel that when you play it. The factory set-up is unrivaled on basses in this price range, the bass is set up with a super low action and plays super smooth with no fret buzz. Without a doubt a top instrument that will also appeal to fans of more expensive boutique basses! Why do you already offer them for exchange / purchase, I hear you think? Well, it's a tough choice to be honest as this bass has just about everything I would expect from such an instrument, but the neck profile of this P/J is somewhere between that of a Jazz Bass and that of a Precision bass in (the nut of this hybrid neck - as Lakland calls it - has the width of a Jazz bass neck, but is a bit deeper than a Jazz neck, making it closer to a Pbass in terms of depth) and unfortunately that's not really my thing and I'm having a really hard time getting used to it after playing wider/flatter neck profiles for over a decade.. Looking for trades with 4 or 5 string fretted, 32-34" scale and a wide, flat neck profile. Also interested in analog(!) effect-pedals. Yes (interested in trades with): - MTD kingston - Sire - Fender MIJ/MIA jazz (no 5strings in this case) - Lakland 44-02 - Cort - FGN - G&L Jazz - Mayones - Musicman Sterling USA - Sandberg Jazz - Roscoe (standard) - Vigier - Mensinger - Schecter - Marleaux - Human Base - ESP - Dingwall - Ibanez No (not interested in trades with): - Spector - Ken Smith - Yamaha - Warwick - Supro - Rickenbacker - Maruszczyk - Jackson - Charvell - Steinberger The RRP for this bass is around 1649 Euros and it is less than a week old (original packaging, tools and cable are still available), so please bear that in mind when making an offer or trade. In case of sale I would like to get 1100 GBP/ 1250 Euro for it, but an exchange (with or without cash adjustment either way) is preferred. The bass can be extensively tested and picked up in Ghent, Ledeberg or can be shipped in the original packaging. Feel free to message me if you have any questions or a trade-proposal. 😉
  12. I'm looking at a possible trade with a 44-02 atm. That neck seems to be slightly wider at the nut, but also flatter, which seems to suit my hands better. 😉
  13. Updated the list with possible trades, also willing to take some effects-pedals as partial payment.
  14. As I've already gotten a lot of trade offers that didn't really rock my boat. I've made a short list based on my experience with all these brands showing which trades I'm interested in and which trades I'm not interested in, hoping to save you some time and effort offering trades that don't fall within my interests. 15. Well, since I couldn't source one locally (I'm in Belgium) I had to order one from Denmark so shipping costs are quite steep compared to other stores. It cost >100Euro to get it here from Denmark, and Denmark is not in the EU (they use a different currency than the Euro) so extra costs had to be paid for importing this beauty. Therefore I'm not really keen on paying the return costs out of my own pocket as I would then again have to deal with customs and find another Lakland (with jazz bass neck this time) and probably import it again as they seem to be quite hard to find on the local market. Hence my preference for a trade.
  16. I've just got this delivered from Bass Buddha earlier this week and it's a superb instrument. The hardware, PLEK'd frets, sound and playability are top notch in every way and I truely believe it would be very hard to find a bass of equal quality in this price range. Alas the neck on these custom PJ's sits somewhere in between a Jazz bass and Precision bass neck profile and I expected a more wide/flat neck profile. Hence, I'm considering a trade with a bass with a wider/flatter neck profile that suits my hands a bit better. The 44-64 comes with an ash body, maple neck with Indian Rosewood fretboard, Hipshot Ultralite tuners and Lakland USA pickups. The original packaging and goodies (tools, cable) are still available. The factory set-up is superb, the bass plays lightning fast with a low action and no buzz. As I've already gotten a lot of trade offers that didn't really rock my boat. Anyway, time for some pic's...
  17. I would like a Precision bass, so trade offers are welcome. (it can be 4 string, 5 string, fretted or lined fretless, only passive basses please) Sire V5R This model has only been on the market for a few months and is the passive version of the Sire vintage style Jazz bass with 70's style pickup spacing and vintage style bridge. I bought this new 3 months ago and shortly after purchase equipped the bass with a set of Fender Yosemite alnico 5 pickups and better shielding, wiring and poti's, which are clearly an upgrade over the original pickups and wiring. Very lightweight! At +-3,7kg this must be the lightest full size JB I've owned so far. New price of the bass was 499 Euro, price of the pickups was 99 Euro. Original packaging available. looking for 450 euros/399GBP for this one. The bass can be tested and picked up in Ghent, Ledeberg. Worldwide shipping is available. Best regards, Don
  18. I went a bit over budget while shopping for a practice combo (planned on buying something cheap, but ended up buying a brand new Eich amps bc112pro combo... 😅) So here's a Final price drop to 885GBP.
  19. Edit: In the OP I had the pickups listed as Maruszczyk single coils, but just realised they are Delano JC 4 AL's, so I have edited the OP. Original advert with full spec list can be found here: https://www.public-peace.de/elwood-4p-black-medium-32.html?language=en
  20. INTERESTED IN TRADES - multi-effect for bass like Valeton dapper bass, zoom B1Four, Zoom B3n, Tech 21 Bass Fly rig or similar. - small pedaltrain - Zoom audiocam (q2n, q4n, q8n,...) Greets & Grooves!
  21. Alas, I'm not a 6string player, otherwise you would've gotten a message from me already.
