Reverb and verification of id

A friend of mine has just sold a Gibson accoustic 6 string on Reverb.  It went off ok and was received. Reverb will not now release the money until he verifies his id. Has anyone else come across this and how to resolve it?

No experience that helps you, but it sound similar to the ebay requirements that leads to the tax office tracking your 'income' from selling.
