Orange Little Bass Thing Opinions

The last few weeks, by accident, I've found myself playing through some Orange gear. The first was a MarkBass Little Mark Tube through a couple of Orange OBC112's and then last Saturday, an Orange Crush 100 Combo with a 15" speaker. Both sounded fabulous, especially the combo and it's got me thinking, I quite fancy trying an Orange Little Bass Thing. I've never owned or even used Orange gear until now so I'm wondering what the general opinion is of it and of this amp head. It would be run through my Barefaced Two10 and I currently using a Little Mark IV.

I had one for a few days and didn’t get on with it. I only had it for a few days as it had a faulty power supply and so had to be returned.

the sound was too clean for my liking, and the volume was notched, and I couldn’t get on with it. It went from too quiet to too loud very quickly. You could use the compressor to adjust it but it was a pain.

The Orange Terror bass is much better in my opinion. I had the Mk 1 version for about 15 years, using it with an Orange SP212 cab.

I had one for a few months and I liked it. The compressor was superb ( optical ) which added a valve tone with grit

Simple EQ and a loud amp

Incidentally I tried a mk2 Terror bass head and it went straight back just couldn’t get a tone out of it I liked ! Many rave about them though !

LBT is a very capable amp

Finally got to use my LBT in anger tonight and was very impressed.

It's loud, very loud. The EQ is very usable and the compressor adds so much character. I played it with a precision and through a Barefaced Super Twin and barely had the volume at 9 o'clock, in a loud rock band in a village hall.

The only gripes I have;

It's so powerful I had to put a tea towel under it to stop it falling off my cab. I may invest in a rubber Matt or some rack ears and a new shallow rack - although this seems like it's missing the point of an amp so small.

The notched volume control takes a bit of work, it goes from too quiet to very loud so I had to use the volume on my bass to assist with the levels. I will look into getting the pots changed under warranty like another chap did on here.

Overall, very happy. A great bit of kit.

Good to hear you are pleased with it. I found the notched volume hard to get on with, and thought it a strange design choice. It is not something I'd ever come across before on the numerous guitar & bass amps and hi fi equipment that Ive used over the years.

When I got mine, I thought it was broken at first as in my excitement to open and use it, I plugged my cable into the foot switch socket in error, and couldn't work out why it it didn't work!!!!

For me, it's not the notched volume per se (the Ashdown ABM has them) it's the uneven jump in volume in the first few notches.

And I did exactly the same thing with the footswitch input :)
