Clarky
Much as I love the sound and feel of these premier steel-wound gut strings, I have decided to move on my Oliv A/D/G strings. By way of background I bought the D/G off BassChat in used but excellent condition from Laurence Bassadder (there's no breaks at all in windings, silks are in vgc). I bought the A brand new from StringZone about a month ago and it matches really well and has decent sustain on my bass ... despite some of the naysayers who only recommend the D/G. Together they cost me £170. I would sell them as a package for £150 posted. Would be £270 new from thestringzone.co.uk, so this is a serious (£120/c.40%) saving http://www.thestring...categories/oliv PS, Why sell you ask? Simply that I would prefer more stable tuning. I only get to play 30 minutes max a day and often just a couple of minutes on weekdays, when not rehearsing/gigging with my band, so a more stable non-gut set would suit me better. Basically I am lazy! If I were a full-time player or had more time to practice it would be different. Also if I were an arco player (these are known to be excellent for arco) it would be different. Instead, I have put on a set of Velvet Blues on my 3/4 flatback and I have a set of Presto Nylonwound Lights as a backup set. These do gut-sounding pretty well (not as nice as the Olivs, obviously) but are much more stable tuning-wise. PPS, obviously you would need to match with an E, but the Oliv E is renowned as being largely thud, which is why I used a Spirocore Mittel E.
