Yup.. I'm a big fan of the Purps, and whilst I have a lot of respect for Roger, 'My' Bassman is Yes's Chris Squire and they are both associated with Rickenbacker 4001's.. So I have a Mapleglow Rickie as well !!! Had it since 1977 and have an ongoing love hate relationship with it... but would never part with her !!

I've been through so many basses over the last few years (Warwick Thumbs, Corvettes, MM Stingrays & Sterling) It was only when I bought a Lakland JO 5, I felt comfortable with the feel of the neck, so I bought a JO 4 ( the Blue & Sunny one in 2007 pic) and was knocked out by the feel, sound & quality of these basses. Had tried loads of Fenders in shops, but they never seemed to grab me, that I didn't want to put them down. Then I spotted a USA Bob Glaub on e-bay in America with the Jazz Neck, had to have it and to date is the best bass I've ever picked up ( The Warwick Thumb was close, but very neck heavy) I've got the Duck Dunn, as its the closest to my spec BG at a third of the price and will be my back up or will be used in tight spots where there is a risk of it getting a knock !!

Glen Hughes is playing a Lakland, as is Mr Squire (how I heard about them!!) The list of 'names' using Laklands is growing daily. I think a lot of stars are using them because they are probably the closest thing to a Vintage Priceless Fender you can get, and I would not want to take a priceless guitar out on tour !!

Hi Dusty, you have a fantastic collection. How long has Chris Squire been using Lakland's and which ones?
I'm a lefty player and have found it hard to get good basses over the years. I've had, Jaydee, Gibson T'bird( righty turned upside down), Precision's, Jazz basses and a couple of custom built, ACG and KGB. I've always wanted a Ric and I had an opportunity to play one last year, bearing in mind my favourite bass players have used them, Geddy, Chris, Macca, Lemmy. I was hoping for some kind of magical union. No, I couldn't stand the feel of it, its neck and general playability were not for me, so I was very disappointed.
I'd like to try a Lakland but I think finding a lefty would be a struggle.
How do the American ones compare to the Far eastern models?
Cheers Steve.

I think that covers your question in enough detail. I have three Skylines and rate them as highly as anything I've ever played. Best bang for the buck on the market especially if you pick up a good second hand one.
