Tokai Jazz Bass wiring

Hello, People of Basschat this is my first post so be gentle.

I have a 1980's Tokai Jazz Bass (pre-lawsuit) that I'm currently attempting to refinish.

When I get to put the bass back together again I could do with a wiring diagram for the control panel and pickups. Does anyone have one of these? Also, the tone pot needs replacing would I be right to replace this with an audio taper CTS 250k pot?

Many thanks in advance for your help.

There's not much info out there on Tokai, I'm trying to figure out the wiring on my Tokai Ric copy at the moment too. However, there is lots of info on standard Jazz Bass wiring on google and I shouldn't imagine its going to be too different.

Yes a 250k LIN pot should do the trick for the tone. While you have it open you might as well get yourself a couple of CTS 250k LOG pots too and do the whole thing properly :)

A standard Jazz circuit like: http://www.seymourdu...c=std_jazz_bass is all you need. If you want a kit made up for you give me a shout :)

Welcome to the machine BTW B)

Thanks for the replies, just a couple more questions.
Looking at the seymour duncan schematic it shows white and black pickup wires, on the Tokai they are black and blue. Therefore, do I assume that the black wire is the same on the Tok as on the seymour ? There's also an additional (earth?) wire on the pickups looks like this is earthed to the body ?
Regards pots are they long shaft or medium shaft?
Many thanks in advance.

Can't be sure about the wiring colours - black to earth is a good guess. As long as you do both pickups the same it won't affect the sound. If it's the wrong way round then I've heard that you can sometimes get a slight buzzing sound when you touch the pickup pole pieces but that's the only issue.

If the additional earth wire on the pickups is a bare wire (or looks like a twisted "braid" of bare wires) then, yes, earth it to one of the pot shells.

Remember to run an earth wire from under the bridge to one of the pot shells.

On Jazz basses with a metal control panel the metal of the panel will usually earth all of the pots together, but sometimes you'll see an earth wire connecting each pot together.
