Ah, ok, reading HighFox's post again, I can see the confusion. I read his post as meaning that flats ARE slidy and silky.
It would be pretty hard to argue against flats being the smoothest of the string types. They are flat after all :-)
Obviously, some flats are smoother than others, and some may say that they prefer rounds for whatever reason, but in terms of smoothness, and lack of friction when sliding, I can't see anyone disagreeing that flats are where it's at *

*Actually, scratch that, this is Basschat after all :-)

Down-side though, they are £30! (Yikes!)

I think i might cover knights of cydonia tomorrow with them. Which also got me thinking... what if i made a jazz bass with a MM style humbucker in between the 2 jazz pickups?

Then you'd better start saving up, I'm having a jazz pickup installed on my precision which is costing me £156

eh... why is it costing that much? i thought market price for a decent one would be around £50, and a pretty good one about £70...

£50 for the pickup, £106 for the routing, wiring and the new concentric knobs

Hopefully, got a two week wait though before I find out.

Your idea sounds interesting, I wonder if it's been done before?

Pickup at the neck, and a thumb rest between the mid and bridge pups... crazy!

I saw a picture of a jazz shaped bass yesterday, with a MM style pickup in the tradition MM position (somewhere between the jazz positions) but that was the only pickup it had.

Hopefully some day i can make a couple of bass bodies and put pickups where i like.
