Active/Passive????????????

Hello

I have just bought an active bass and am confused. When it is plugged into the passive socket it is really loud, when plugged into the active socket it is really quiet and mellow. I know it is a daft question,(Mine usually are) but what is the best/correct way to use an active bass to get the best out of it?

Definately use it in the 'active' input. Are you loud enough? That's the question. Loudness is only relevant in a live situation and if you drive the passive input too hard the amp will break up at lower volume which is useless with a full band anyway, unless you want dirty.

The active socket on your amp is buffered to compensate for the ( usually) higher output from an active bass, particulaly if the e.q is cranked up a bit.

There isn't really a "best/correct" way - just choose for yourself. You should be able to tame the high volume when using the passive input (either using the volume control on the bass or the preamp gain on the amp), and you may be able to bring up the volume when using the active input sufficiently to be loud enough. Each will change the sound in very slightly different ways, one of which, if they are noticeably different, you may prefer.
