So I finally took the plunge.....

...and started to learn to read music

I've been playing on and off for over 13 years and could read tab from the day I got my first bass, but never before did I have the desire to learn to read music. In fact I know a lot of people in bands around, and can think of only two of my peers that can read.

Anyway, this year I decided I'd finally make an effort to learn to read. Last Monday was the first time I made an attempt to undertsand the notes of the bass clef, and I've since studied the symbols on my lunch break over the last week. I also got a really helpful android app called "Bass Cat" which helped me to remember the notes.

On Saturday I was chuffed to learn my first song using notation, Try a Little Tenderness by Otis Redding (with Duck Dunn).

While I in no way underestimate the challenge I will face to learn to competently sight-read, I'm really enjoying it so far! I now need to learn my key signatures inside out...suggestions are welcome

Hopefully I'll have the confidence to buy "What Duck Done" and "Standing in the Shadows of Motown" soon...what better motivation
