newbass1000 Posted August 8, 2012 Share Posted August 8, 2012 As a fairly recent starter in slap bass ( only the last year or so ) I've been learning all the typical stuff, Chilis, Primus, Level 42 etc Pretty much straight away I noticed something, guys like Flea/TM Stevens/Rob Trujillo seem to attack the strings from above the bass ( hand dangles over the bass ) whereas Claypool, King, Graham, and other more traditional slappers seem to angle the thumb parallel to the strings. Whilst i've thought about learning both ways i've gravitated towards the more traditional approach as I find it makes left hand slaps, muting, double-thumbing all a lot easier, the negative of this being my bass is essentially a few inches under my chin which feels a little uncomfortable.
