apa
Im pondering what this would result in? Specifically Im thinking a 5 string Jazz pickup. Theres no reason why it shouldnt work. Infact its a more logical state since each string will have a pole set either side of it. (correct me if Im wrong) Perhaps a little reduction in output? The only reference of actually doing it is the Ray that Leo made which is supposed to be 'more mellow'. Its not something you see at all as far as I know. The bottom line is - What would the tonal implications be?? Cheers in advance A
EdwardHimself
You are certainly right in saying it will work. The magnetic field created by the polepieces is larger than the size of the polepieces themselves so it will pick it up. I should imagine that depending on which strings you align the polepieces with, they will have a bit of a stronger signal. I'm sure you're aware of the fact that you will have to route out a space for the pickup since they are a different size to the 4 string version. apa
Cheers Ed Its a bit of a hypothetical question but yes string spacing and extra routing etc would be taken care of. There doesnt seem to be much interest in this sort of thing! No one does it so Im guessing theres little advantage in it. A
