learn-bass.com
For a bass player it can sometimes be hard to get motivated to practise on your own, especially when you’ve got no backing track and are constantly repeating the same bass finger exercises, scales etc etc. To be honest it can become quite boring, but it need not be so if you’re willing to do a bit of research and put the effort in. Firstly there’s plenty of songs that are just waiting to be played to help motivation, but there’s also a minefield of tutorials on the internet willing to teach you bass techniques like pitch harmonics, or different styles of playing like slap and pop. Also, in addition to playing scales in the same position have you tried playing them in different keys and up and down the fret board? What about playing arpeggios? (the notes of a chord played individually, thus creating a melodic interval). Or chords? (a series of notes taken from a specific scale to create a sound based on the harmonic intervals between the individual notes). Have you heard of modes?? (basically a scale within a scale). Don’t always be tempted to practise what’s been done before either, use all the techniques, scales, styles etc that you’ve learned along the way and make up your own riff or bass line, try different sounds, try different techniques, just be inventive and you’ll soon quickly be surprised at what progress you make. If you still don’t feel motivated to play then read some music theory that will certainly compliment your playing once the urge returns. louisthebass
Good beginners website, could do with some photos in there to show beginners how to hold & play the bass (technique section would benefit from that as well), Theory section could do with a bit on sightreading, but apart from that, good job well done!
