I think I could help I hope my English is good enough:-).So...I have recently did the same because I will never have 2400 euro for original Ric left.I bought 2 Ricks this summer /jetglo is going for sale I will put it here/ and I modified my Mapleglo to be able playing left.INTERESTING IS that usually hated pickup cover does very good job for me because I can put there my thumb if I use fingers or my wrist if I use pick.I can play with fingers behind the cover and I pick my Ric before it.
Modification itself is quite easy the hardest part seems to be remove and flip/over?:-)/ the nut but it is quite easy.I did it twice /first on my Peavey T-40 for sale too-I got advice how to from Peavey T-40 AUTHOR Mr. Ch.T. 75 old man.
Of course you will have to set up?/I hope you understand:-)/ the bridge/saddles/ which is easy and octaves.
Here is incredible site these guys know EVERYTHING about RICs..And here is instruction how to remove nut.

I hope that it will help you.
A few words...Personally I WOULDN`T change Ric sound for some Ric lefty copy bass maybe LEFT IBANEZ would be good but it would never be RIC.And I think it is almost impossible to find left Ibanez RIC copy. Here is one:

But there is something I have to say...You won`t be able play standing unless you drill small hole for guitar strap and if you do that you will very propably have problems with balance...I converted my RIC but I play only sitting I can`t drill hole in such piece of art ..

Hi

At first HAPPY NEW YEAR TO EVERYBODY HERE..

I`d like to add something to this topic.I removed pickup cover from RICK a few days ago..I started learning technique which is I guess called in English FLOATING THUMB.And the result is this:

It`s easier to play with fingers without pickup cover but worse with pick...The cover really helped much when I played with pick.
So..that`s all maybe it`s interesting for someone.
