Newbie needs help with the stranglers

Recommended Posts

Hi,

On the Stranglers "Goodbye Toulouse" bass line, is that an Arpeggio? Also, it seems that the tabs are different depending on where you look. Youtube also has some good attempts, but they dont all play the same "pattern". I guess the only way is to study JJ but he seems to have the knack of turning away from the camera at the appropriate moment. lol

Cheers :)

Nice one, thanks. Although this guy is not playing those tabs and it sounds spot on to me!

If you look at a lot of tabs you'll notice that they're almost all wrong, either with just small errors or completely all over the shop. Anyone can post a tab, including the tone deaf with only days of playing experience, and then those tabs are copied by every tab site out there. Use tabs as a guide, but rely on your ears to tell you what's right. (free) or The Amazing Slow Downer are good for slowing things down enough to hear what's going on and looping sections until you can nail it.

The reason why not all the players on youtube are playing the same pattern is because the same notes are available on different parts of the neck - for instance, some may choose to use open strings while others prefer not to. There's more than one way to skin a cat! :)
