pickup placement on project body

thinking about taking a punt on one of these for an upcoming project...

my question to you guys is what do you think about that pickup position? looks a little far down to be in the sweet spot, though i guess that body shape would have a different one? is it dodgy, should i run for the hills?

Yep you're right it's quite a bit off the traditional position.
Although it might not be as bad as it seems - I recently built a bass with a split P in almost the same position as theirs (plus a bucker in the trad P spot) and I'm very chuffed with it....



For me, pup positioning is all down to harmonics (admittedly hard to pin point it on a split P). Email them and ask if they had a specific reason to place theirs there.

he got back to me and i can custom order what i want. he also has some very nice exotic woods in stock for stupid cheap price, check out his ebay shop!

im going to order a left hand telebass body, in black korina with zebra wood top like this -
