James Jamerson Pictures

Does anyone have or know of a good source for some high quality James Jamerson pictures? The famous one that comes up when searching on google that I have posted below is pretty low quality. I am happy to use that picture but it needs to be much higher quality. If not, then any other pictures would do as long as its high quality.

Do you need photos without anything on them? (I.e. No text etc)

If not, there's a good photo of JJ on the bass player mag cover - http://www.imradio.com/webresources/image/...er_Magazine.jpg

Thanks, I'm afraid it has to have no writing on it and playing bass.

Given that Gordy and the management at Motown went to some lengths to keep the backing musicians 'in the shadows' so to speak I think you are going to be hard pushed to find any high quality photos of Jamerson. Most of the photos I've seen give the impression to have been taken by family or friends and by their very nature will not be of professional quality.

There are a few different photos of Jamerson in the book 'Standing in the Shadows of Motown' but how good these would look after being scanned etc remains questionable.

I for one will be interested to hear how you get on, as I am sure a few other forum members will.

Good luck!

the Standing in the Shadows of Motown *book*, which focuses on Jamerson,
has loads of photos

and can still be bought from Amazon

but I guess if you need to scan photos in from a printed book you
will probably end up with poor resolution

perhaps contact the wonderful guy who put the book together?

good luck

Thanks for all the help with this. In the end I went with a Ray Brown picture. The reason I needed the picture is my friend was going to reproduce it as a painting. As you can see I went with Ray Brown. I think it looks great. I would still like a James Jamerson painting but at the moment she said the pictures I provided were not good enough to reproduce.
