Snapped Nut

So last night at a battle of the bands, the worst thing possible happened. the nut snapped on my guitar and i ended up with a dodgy top string. anyway, struggled through an hours set, occasionally having to pop the string back onto the neck.

how do i remove the rest of the nut? and can i buy a pre cut nut for my bass?
then how do i fit the new nut?

Using a block of wood for protection a sharp [b]tap[/b] front and back with a small hammer should free it up.

Without knowing what bass you have, there are plenty of P & J type (& the odd Gibby) nuts on ebay.

its a Yamaha RBX, plastic nut

Should drop out no problem,if its similar to the Ibanez narrow type ive some spare

7string has already set up, restrung and rewired this guitar. i might need to talk to him again. see what he says about it
