Custom metal bits

As was taked about in the metal sheeting thread not long ago, I'm looking to get a surround made for a pickup, and the only option is to get it from abroad. However, all the stuff is going to be chrome. Chrome is all well and good, but i'm not a fan of 'shiny' and prefer a dull metal look, ie nickel. Is it possible to get nickel stuff made? I've no idea where to start looking... Google wasn't very helpful!

Either way, if anybody knows where I could get a few (relatively) simple bits made (pickup ring and possibly a control plate) then could you pass on any info?

Cheers :)

The problem with nickel is that it will tarnish and eventually turn green. This process can be accelerated by contact with sweaty fingers!
Brushed aluminium or stainless steel would be better.
You may even be able to take the shine off chrome plating with wire wool, I've never tried it so it might take the chrome off too.

A few off beat ideas:

If you're happy to polish (or brush) aluminium, it can be worked by routing. (conventional woodworking router using conventional woodworking bits) as long as you take it steady!
For someone to make little bits, try a local model engineering society. You'd more likely get results from that than a firm that won't be nterested in making a couple of odments.

For your plating queries, there's bound to be a plating firm near you. ( I only know a place in Derby) ... If you struggle finding someone, or are unsure of what quality to expect, give a classic car restorer a ring and ask for a recommendation. ... they're dealing with that kind of thing every day.
