  1. Anyone notice La Bella Strings arnt the same as they used to be?

On my main P bass, I have a 10 year old set of La Bella Deep Talking strings that still feel and sound fantastic.

The new sets I have bought recently are just not the same. They feel/sound more rubbery and break easily. Almost like Im buying fake sets but theyre from big named online shops so that cant be.

    This just me?

  2. Hello all I was hoping for someone with experience in Bartolini Pickups to give advice.

I have a custom Musicman 5 String style bass I am putting together. I already have a Bartolini Musicman Classic pickup installed in the sweetspot. Im planning to buy another Bartolini Musicman Pickup and arrange them like the Bongo pickup locations.

Keeping the bass passive. Does anyone know if the Bartolini Original Pickups have more low end and more specifically, high end than the Bartolini Classic pickups?

Thinking of placing a Bartolini Original at the bridge and the Classic at the neck positions.

    Thankyou!

  3. So bought a Fazley Hot Rod P bass from Bax.  The quality is what you expect from a bass priced that low.  I strung it up with La Bella flatwounds and it sounds lovely, however...

If I fret anyway along the D string it sounds like a fretless!  You know, that kinda Mwaaaaaaah decay.  And I have nooooooo idea why! Doesnt make a difference if I adjust the truss rod or action.

Ive tried two fender style bridges now and the same thing happens. If anything I kind of want to get the rest of strings to do the same! It sounds great.  Any idea whats going on?

Oh I should mention I had the same La Bella strings on another precision bass and it didnt do this.

That reminds me - Brandoni Guitars bought up the contents of the Eko factory years ago and had some acoustic bodies designed for bolt-on necks last time I was there, however the bsuiness has been closed since Roberto passed away in March last year and there is no indication of whether his family will be reopening the business.

Those Eko acoustic basses sure seem the loudest unplugged. Thanks for the recommendations

  5. Are their any real world examples of this happening? Im talking full size acoustic bass bodies like dreadnought.  Obviously theres the smaller hollow body fretless basses out there such as Ibanez.   I have a Status Fretless neck longing for a suitable quality body and I thought, how about a full sized acoustic body instead of the typical standard size solid body so I could potentially use it unplugged with the right gauge strings to emphasize the upper harmonics instead of worrying about reproducing fundamentals acoustically. It would of course also be wired up to use as an electric.

    Thanks all

  6. Hello all, I was wondering if I can just use the Future Impact just for its Envelope Filter section? i.e. sound of my bass or whatever is before the FI and just use the FI for its filters and not its oscillators? Also can anyone recommend any Midi controllers used to use the FI with a Expression pedal please.

  7. I currently have a Pedaltrain Terra 42 with flightcase I will be using eventually (Got it secondhand on this forum for an awesome deal). However the flightcase is a bit cumbersome! Pedaltrain do not sell the softcase for it separately.... Can anyone think of a alternative to the Pedaltrain Terra 42 Softcase?

Im thinking Warwick gigbag, you know, the one thats inbetween a hardcase and softcase and gutting that to fit the pedalboard in.

    Pedaltrain pedalboard measures at 42" x 15" x 4"

the main trouble I encounter with FOH sound is a muddy sub bass so I always cut anything below 50Hz before the signal gets sent to the desk.

Indeed! I usually have this on my GK 1001RB but unfortunately was Pre-EQ DI. I run the Flea EQ: Lows: 8 o'clock Low Mids: 9 o'clock High Mids: 11 o'clock and Highs at Noon. Pre-Shape and Presence 10 o'clock though. This with my Fender Precision Deluxe and Barefaced Big Twin II is the tightest punchiest lows Ive ever managed. Even got an Auralex pad to stop the booming on hollow stages, seems to work a treat.

I'll always have the soundman listen to my on stage sound first then tell him to bring up the FOH bass sound and i'll listen to see if he matches the sound i'll be hearing. Most good sound guys can do that quite easily and i always give them post EQ too.

You should be able to tell even from the stage if the FOH sound is near what you expect. If its sub bassy then i would expect to have heard that at sound check and would say something. Maybe you didn't have the luxury of a sound check and i don't know your gig circumstances so difficult to know who is 100% to blame.

Shame your childhod dream gig is ruined by FOH sound. I'd be furious.

    Dave

I just trust in the soundman too much.
