Is that bass on consignment at the Gallery by any chance? If it is then I've played it - and it's lovely. It is also ridiculously light - lightest bass I think I've ever picked up!
It is indeed the same one . . . . and yes it's extremely light . Probably about the lightest Fender I've ever owned and I've owned quite a few over the years . Really beautiful bass man .
You need the B profile neck, which I think measures 1 & 5/8ths" at the nut as opposed to the wider C profile neck found on early / mid 60's P basses ! Having played only Jazzers for years in the early days, this width of neck doesn't feel too much different to the A Profile neck of a Jazz to me. ps - I think the '5' on the Fender neck stamp denotes that it's a Precision, not the actual day of the month, otherwise from experience, all P basses were only made on the 5th of each month !
Yes , you're quite correct sir . The digit before the month indicates the model . . . . not the day of the month !
We certainly do Squib! That's a cracking guitar and the fact it's still here puts me off selling my old Bassmans etc just now. If I shifted them I'd buy one of these beautiful basses for sale! Hope the market improves for you.
I have a beautiful PE Stingray ( that's a a killer player ) too and that has been for sale for months too ?? It's the strangest market that I can ever remember for buying and selling gear and unfortunately I'm an old git and have been around a long time !! Thanks for the kind words .
When did it have the refin and what was the original colour?
It was done a couple of years back and was badly stripped and varnished when I got it . It had evidence of several different finishes over the years , none of them being the original , so I don't know what it was I'm afraid .

Okay , I'm selling my beautiful 73-74 Jazz . Still not sure if it's 73 or 74 , as I originally bought it as a 73 and it's a 4 bolt neck , but from memory ( the bass isn't in front of me at the moment ) , the pots are dated 74 . No matter how many times I've examined the neck stamp , it's pretty much impossible to read ? I therefore concluded that the bass was put together in 73 , but hung around until 74 . . . or for whatever reason the pots were changed ? Either way it's a wicked early 70's Jazz . I suppose it's officially 74 ???? ( But it could be 73 ?? ) Lovely old refin in LPB with the usual dings etc . RW fingerboard /blocks 'n bound . Both bridge and pickup covers included ( not shown in pics . ) To my knowledge , all original , except the finish and pick guard and non original ( but old ) hard shell case . Everything as it should be and a beautiful sounding and playing Jazz. Always welcome to come and give her the once over and try her out if you are able to get to North London ? Will ship within UK or to Europe at buyers expense , but obviously collection is preferable . [s]£1850 [/s]plus shipping . Price drop . . £1700-00 . I'll attempt to get better pics up later ?
