  1. Guys - sorry not doing a cheeky bump - only to answer a couple of questions from the messages I got

    the bass is 4.40 kg

    Made in Korea

July 2002 according to the serial

    Bartolini pickups and preamp

i prefer to personally deliver for petrol money if it’s not too far off London, or collection. Unfortunately don’t have the time nor the packaging materials for shipping.

  2. Hi guys,

Another one of my basses going for sale - this one is a lovely Lakland 55-02.

The bass isn't in perfect condition, it has been played and there's some cosmetic wear but otherwise in great condition.

Set to very low and comfortable action, strung with Elixir 45-130 with plenty of life in them.

I love this bass and I am only selling because I've just pulled the trigger on a 55-94.

I'm based in West London, I'd rather not ship but I travel often for gigs and delivery/meet up should be easily arranged.

  3. Hi guys,
Selling my KSD ProtoJ5 due to buying another one in natural finish which I prefer.

If you know these - then you know how rare and sought after they are, especially for gospel music and it has a slap tone to die for. If you don’t - google them 🙂.

I brought this one to Charlie Chandler’s guitars earlier this year to have a PLEK done (for those who don’t know it is a computer controlled machine that levels the frets down to a micron) worth £140 - I believe I still have the receipt for that.

I’ve also installed Aguilar 5J-HC pickups (£300 retail price) but I will supply the original ones too.

The bass is in a very good condition, couple of small marks.

I also had to route the pickup beds to accommodate the slightly larger AG’s. This is visible if you look for it, in other words if you hang it on your bedroom wall you’ll see it, if you are playing it - you won’t.

Here’s a video of the great LA session bassist Melvin Davis playing one of these on the Lee Ritenour tour

Here’s a video of this particular bass played by me -

The strings action is very low and comfortable, neck feels like butter.

I am based in west London but I often travel for gigs around the U.K. so meeting shouldn’t be a problem.

Will consider trades for a 5str Lakland P or PJ.

  4. Hi guys,
Further thinning my bass collection - I have a lovely example of a maple neck OLP Tony Levin with upgraded electronics.
The bass plays and sounds awesome, I’m only selling because I recently acquired a maple neck for my Stingray and this one doesn’t get played.
A couple of minor marks, overall in a great shape. These are amazing basses and aren’t in production anymore which makes them very hard to find.
Only the Bartolini preamp an pickup would set you back as much as the asking price so grab yourself a bargain.

I am based in West London but I often travel for gigs so meeting could be arranged easily.

  5. Bump! Will consider sensible offers.

These basses aren’t that common so to describe it in short - think StingRay with added warmth and lovely highs, slightly wider neck and extremely comfortable to play. Nails that Flea sound but can also get soft, or purr and growl when pushed.

  6. I think someone did post on items wanted section that he’s looking for a short scale bass. I’d say it doesn’t get any better than this, and the price is really not representing what gems these are.

I tried a few Marleaux basses at the bass show last month and I was amazed with the playability and their preamps, I’ve had a lot of different basses throughout 20 years of playing for a living and nothing has ever felt better than these. Bump!

  7. Hi guys, thinning out my collection as there’s a Ken Smith I want to buy and I need the cash.

This is my upgraded MTD Kingston heir.

The bass is in a great shape apart from the dent on the headstock that can be seen on the photo and another scratch that I’ll fotograph if anyone is interested.

    Upgrades

    Bartolini pickups

    Bartolini Preamp

Series - parallel - single coil switch

Fret job done by Bernie Goodfellow, allowing for very low strings action.

Its an an amazing bass that I would love to keep if I didn’t have to raise £5k for a Smith.

Based in west london but i travel often for gigs. No postage.

    Price drop to £750

  8. Hi guys,

putting my beloved Sanberg for sale as there’s a Ken Smith I really want to buy but I’m short on cash.

Its a great bass with a lovely neck allowing for a very low setup (as all of my basses). Sound is very authoritive and you’ll never be lost in the mix with this one.

It has a few minor scratches but nothing too bad. I do have the truss rod cover but I’ve lost the screws - that should be easily acquired at any hardware shop.

£1000, no trades (unless it’s a Ken Smith and cash your way)

Based in West London but I travel often.

Just to add add a bit more info

I believe the piece of tape over the “a” letter has been out there because the letter has come off - easy fix with a drop of super glue.

I’ve added a new photo of a bit of cracking around the strap lock insert - had forgotten about that because since it’s under the strap, I never see it.

Price drop to £900 and I can assure you it’s a lot of bass for the money...

Just out of interest, and if you don't mind me asking, what's the bass you have that's similar?

A tribute Tobias with the same John East preamp I’ve put in and Bartolini pickups mate. It’s just a bit lighter and being lower value, I’d prefer to keep it as I can trade the overwater for something more upmarket.

  10. Hi guys,

recently acquired this lovely example in a trade, but I realised it’s got very similar feel and sound to another bass that I already own so this one will have to go.

33” scale, flat fretboard - it’s by far the fastest neck I’ve ever played. Action is ridiculously low (can easily be set higher if you prefer).

I played a couple of gigs with it and imho it’s the easiest bass to play due to the shorter scale, my hands were thanking me after :)

Can be strung either C to E or G to B, I have it to B at the moment and it’s one of the tightest B’s I’ve ever heard. Very punchy, really nice low mid growl.

I believe the string spacing at the bridge is 16.5 mm

It has the John East 5 knob preamp fitted which is one of the most versatile preamps out there.

Correct me if I’m wrong but looking at Overwater’s website, this one would cost over £3200 to build at the moment.

As as far as I can see there’s no marks or dents on it.

I’d be interested in trades for other 5 sting basses - Lakland, Dingwall, Zon, and I would pay extra £’s for a Ken Smith or anything interesting with higher value.

I would be extremely interested in a trade for a Scott Ambush bass but I know that’s a long shot - these are rarer than a hen’s teeth.

I’m based in West London but I travel often for gigs, and I would drive for the right trade.

Here’s a link to Scott playing and reviewing it himself.

    Thanks,

    Steff
