  1. I had an LB100, sold it on here fairly recently, mine came from bass direct, as a nearly new second hand bass. It was absolutely lovely to play, so well made, great quarter sawn maple neck, but I just prefer the sound of my fender P basses. The G&L was a bit too modern / soul-less almost, by comparison. Just my take on it.

The demo sounded pretty cool. It's now on my to try list- although it'll take a lot to knock my black label chorus off my board! ;)

I have the MXR analog on mine, but there was something about the EHX, it did sound pretty cool, may have to try one if they're only £65 or so...

Changed your mind on that then? :)

haha, yep, listened with headphones and less drunk ;)

in my defence, I have changed my mind on a great many things in the last 2 years!!

  4. ah, cheers, very kind of you to say so :) we're really happy with how that album has come out, just need to crack on with gigging now! :)

I still need to give the new Russian circles album a listen (helms alee too!)

  5. thanks - well, I play in an instrumental 3-piece (link in sig), so there is lots of space to fill. I use some type of dirt about 90% of the time, if not more. TK-421x (grindey RAT tone) for the main dirt tone, TFR (doomey-muff fuzz) for the really heavy parts, or the synthy upper register bits, and the mini I'm using for a little bit of drive when I don't want the aggressive tones of the COG. They each sound very different, and having no vocals, you can appreciate the changes in tone a bit more!

My votes would be for a COG 66 or an Xotic BB Bass Pre

    Simples :)

can't argue with this, but I'd add the SS/BS mini to the list too, does a lovely overdrive, but for playing finger style, BB kills

edit: just watched the video - I don't want to be one of those guys who recommends whatever he has just bought, but the SSBS mini is spot on for this, though from videos I've seen, the beta is similar too.

  7. OK, so this isn't a new pedal 'day', but I wanted to wait a couple of weeks before writing anything, after trying it at a couple of band practices...

Really liking this pedal, it has a v useful 2 band EQ, and is capable of boosting the low end, not just maintaining it. The 'bias' control is very cool, you can dial it to the right and have a very transparent tone, lots of headroom, or turn it left and it gets very lofi, gatey and dirty :) It goes all the way from very subtle overdrive through to heavy distortion, and usable all the way through.

Honestly, it's the first dirt pedal I've owned or tried (of many) where there is more than one different tone in there, the bias knob really does make that much difference. Love my tall font russian, TK421x and BB preamp, but I have them all dialled into a 'sweet spot' for me, and that's it. The mini is super versatile, but has its own voice.

It's staying on the board :)
