Few exciting gigs on the horizon...

ArcTanGent coming up next month, with countless post rock, post hardcore etc bands.

Then Lemonheads in Bristol, been a fan for 30 odd years so quite excited about this.

Then off to Seattle in October. Ticket for Girls Against Boys.  My second favourite band with 2 bassists :) Hoping to get to a few more shows when I'm out there...

All in all, an exciting few months ahead!!!

ATG done - still not recovered haha...

So, Chiyoda Ku in Bristol tonight, Lemonheads in a few weeks, then a couple of shows in Seattle - Girls against boys then Melt Banana the next day :)

  3. I picked up one of these a few weeks back from bass direct, with flats. it's a fantastic sounding bass. Sadly, I'm struggling with the size of the thing, not the scale length, more the narrow neck, but hopefully I'll get used to it with time!

  4. It also depends how you use the octave pedal, as for me, i'd never consider using it on something as low as an open 'E'.

I'd like to try and OC-5, but having owned a few OC-2, my keeper track pretty damn well and sounds great, but I use it with dirt, often chorus, at least an octave above an open E. I don't use it to reach notes lower than the bass can produce, more to fatten up notes on the upper register, but others may vary i guess.

  5. Hi all - first time back on BC in a couple of years as the band has been on a long hiatus, and my pedalboard is pretty settled these days.

But I'm v. keen on picking up an SY-1 pedal - for those of you that have one, how well does it work with other pedals? I'm thinking of using with distortion, fuzz, chorus and delay. Any thoughts most appreciated!

    Some nice boards here guys!

Thought I share mine as well before I change it again 😁

So here it goes: the chain starts with the Mooer Bass Fog > tuner > comp > pre doubeling as clean DI. From there to the bottom row octave > filter > drive > fuzz > chorus > multi and to finish it all off cab sim/wet DI. All mounted on the Pedaltrain Metro 24, powered by Cioks DC5 and yes, there are some cables as well.

Since this picture couple of weeks ago I've acquired Red Witch Zeus fuzz and it challenges the Fog, the Muff and maybe even the MXR octave. Althogu just today I received an old Japanes OC2, decisions, decions. Also I think the wet DI/cab sim will be changed to Sansamp BDDI and might take the multi off the board cause don't really need it.

Let me know what you guys think and which octave should I go for?

I played for a while in a band with OC-2 -- BB Preamp -- Muff -- MXR Chorus, similar core to what you have there. So many options! The OC-2 and the BB were pretty magical together to my ears, really a great combo.

They are always on. I starting to use them because I go ampless 99% of the time.

The HPF cuts the subs. I started to set it at 60Hz. Especially with my 5th string bass, it just sounds more tight. It gives more room to the kick drum (my drummer likes bassier kick drums) and it protects the PA and the amp.

I use the LPF as the rolloff of a very transparent bass cab without tweeter. It helps especially with distortion.

If I use a cab with a mic, I don't use the LPF

thanks - really interesting. so you're using the HPF is like an sfx thumpinator then?

I've played gigs for 20 years mostly into mic'd cabs or a combo of that and DI, but my last gig was straight to PA, and I had a nightmare with the high frequencies for fuzz and distortions, so that's all good to know!

    many thanks...

Can I ask an honest question please - how do you use the HP and LP filters, and what do they do to/for your signal on this setup?

I've never had either on my board, and have often seen one or the other on peoples boards, so I'm just genuinely curious as to what they do and how you use them with those pedals? Always on? To emphasise certain pedals?

    cheers

  9. Hi all - does anybody have recommendations for sending a bass in a hard case, with no way of obtaining a cardboard box to put it in (guitar shops around here all shut)?

Any ideas most welcome, I'd rather not ship the hard case unprotected (and UPS say I must have it in a cardboard box also).

    Thanks all

    Weight please

I knew I'd forget to put something in the ad!

Almost home, it won't be mega accurate as will have to use the bathroom scales with me and bass, then just me!

But it's a smudge lighter than my US P, on the lighter end for sure. Give me 20 mins!

EDIT - OK my scales not super accurate so can only say it's less than 9lbs and more than 8.5lbs

  11. Hi all. For reluctant sale here is my 2003 AV62 Fender Precision.

    *** Price dropped to £1,100 ***

    *** ON HOLD - SOLD PENDING ***

Bought on this site 2-3 years ago, has barely left the case since. Lovely playing and sounding bass, prob the best P bass I've owned, but I prefer the slightly thinner neck on my US standard, and this AV62 is too nice to take to some of the venues I play at haha! Fitted with flats (TI flats I believe, though not 100% sure).

All in very good condition, one barely noticeable mark on the front I've taken a picture of for full disclosure. Case in very good condition, seems to still have that 'new bass smell!' all the tools, booklet, strap, covers (never mounted) etc.

Price is now £100 below what I paid for the bass on here, so this is a pretty firm price. No trades thanks, unless you have a BOSS OC-2 or HM-2 in part-ex.

Bass is in Bristol. I'd rather not post if possible, unless arranged by buyer at their risk, but happy to drive to meet within reasonable distance. Welcome to pop over for a try out.

    Feedback thread below...

    Cheers.

  12. Love my JMJ mustang, can't stop playing the thing. The setup was terrible though, intonation absolutely miles out and the nut needed work. But now it's sorted, i'm loving it.

Not heard about them being discontinued, they're still showing in stock for all the major stores online?

I am very interested to hear how you get on with this.

I finally used it at full vomume at practice last week, and it's staying on the board...

Tracks really well, with a bit of lag but nothing serious. Doesn't sound as strong or quite as clear as the harmony settings on my reissue bass whammy, but I didn't really expect it to.

It's really versatile, and some good tone prints. The MASH switch is pretty useful here, whereas on the TC delay I tried recently it was more of a gimmick.

Some of the toneprints that have a short delay, so you can dial in the pitch of the repeats, are very cool and lead to 'Battles' style tones, which is part of the reason I got this pedal.

For me, dones't touch an analog octaver for using as an octave down, and not as good as a bass whammy or POG for standard octave stuff, but it's really versatile, and does a job on my board for mathy style riffs high up the neck! It's a tidy little pedal...

Feels like a modern, TC-take on a Boss PS-3, so maybe more use for cocking about in the studio than live, but we'll see!

  14. Pulled the trigger on one of these after using a lot of pitch shifters in the studio last week!

Will report back next week - hopefully tracks as well as the bass whammy, which is too huge for my board...

  15. Two pedals for sale. I picked these up towards the end of 2018 but they weren't able to displace anything from my gigging pedalboard. So, instead of them going unused I'm putting them up for sale. As for trades only interested in an OC-2.

Prices include postage (UK), pickup from Bristol possible (with small discount).

    TC Flashback Delay v2

This is the newer version with the additional tone print slots and the MASH function on the footswitch. Perfect condition, boxed with USB cable, paperwork and sticker. £SOLD

Earthquaker Devices Hummingbird Repeat Percussions v3

Choppy tremolo, with expression pedal input. Top mounted jacks. Again, perfect  condition, boxed with paperwork and sticker. £SOLD

    cheers - Gaz.
