Beatles were primarily influenced by the polite end of soul. Berry Gordy etc.
Hence folks in the south would be less impressed. I mean, Watts-Stax etc.....Muscle Shoals....
I was one of the Southerners in the UK who was not that impressed with them.
Great tunes but not much to shake your butt to.

To be fair - they seemed to like them - eventually - and vice-versa............

Compare that with the US chart...Elvis is in there but with "Return to Sender""...not exactly visceral Rock and Roll. The rest of the top 20 is pretty bland, with only The Crystals to add a bit of grit. Fortunately, it took a few years for Rock to get to Britain, so by the time it was on the way out in the States, it was getting popular over here. It's that second wave that revitalised Pop Music and reminded the US what all the fuss was about in the first place.

Yes, but as was already pointed out, the Beatles first singles were also 2 minute boy meets girl songs; also while there was a heavy measure of the same in the Beatles first week in the US charts the US already had Beach Boys, Roy Orbison, Martha Reeves & The Vandellas, The legendary Louie Louie by The Kingsmen, the equally legendary Surfin Bird by The Trashmen and the afore-mentioned Ray Charles for Cliff's sake (him too).

ah, you had to be there :) seriously, the charts were just full of manufactured middle of the road stuff back then
Really? In the week of the Beatles first big UK hit they shared the charts with......
Elvis,
Billy Fury
Nat King Cole (x2)
Joe Brown
Lonnie Donegan
The Shadows
Jet Harris
Buddy Holly
Ray Charles
& Carole King

The Beatles were just a band, they didn't change the world, the world was changing at that time anyway and they just went along for the ride.

They rehashed 50's Rock n Roll to start with and their own early songs were pretty banal pop songs. Compare the lyrics from She Loves You, or I wanna Hold Your Hand to Dylans Mr Tambourine Man or Blowin in The Wind and you'll see that (lyrically anyway) they were nothing special really.
Harsh - but largely factual - though in balance, and since you mention covers/rehashes; is there a Dylan song that actual wasn't vastly improved by being covered? I'm thinking Hendrix, Byrds, UB40 etc?

Should it look like this? How many variants of the Precision were there in 2008?

OK, so our rhythm guitarist seems completely unable to listen to the band and only capable of listening to himself............

..........(I'm an ex guitarist btw),...........
The first part to me is screaming inexperience, which it sounds like his fragile ego won't admit to. What would happen if you either - offer to show him what you mean on his guitar for a band consensus - or if he won't have you touching his baby - then take a guitar in and show him.
Either way it would either settle his hash, or open the door for his swift exit.

JayDee in Brum does excellent sunburst finishes and is very friendly. John's always got a long waiting list but if he can't do it himself he may be able to advise. Other than that I'd go with the French Polisher suggestion.

I didn`t realise you actually painted it. For some reason I thought you were joking, because I thought it was a photo. The detail on it is outstanding. Really impressed.
Thanks, I appreciate your thoughts.
I didn't count the hours I put into it, so whatever I end up getting for it - if at all - I don't think would be great as an "hourly rate" - though art isn't supposed to be like that. It's the first painting I've done in many years, I usually do pencil stuff.

Taking the water from the Mersey......the water I have left over is still in the same bottle with a layer of green slime in the bottom

Can anyone tell me whether there is a specific type of foam used for guitar stands? I need to patch up a stand, and I don't want to risk using something which will react badly with the finish. Thanks in advance :)
I've just had that exact thing happen with the lining of my John Birch's case  . Round both horn edges (SG shape) and mid way along the back of the neck. Thankfully I may have caught it in time and my trusty Gibson renovation kit has fixed it, though JayDee told me every time you do that it takes a layer of finish off so you can't do it too often.

I've seen folk use loads of alternatives after pulling the foam off a stand. From bits of garden hose to Scholl type toe or finger foam bandages. As I recall it's the older foam that's banned for fumes when it burns that also wrecks nitro finishes though I appreciate that you'd need a foam that's guaranteed not to be trouble.

A lot if people like me, Yankee baby boomers would love it.

Hopefully! But that raised one question. What price do you ask for a piece by an unknown artist while still recognising the unique aspect of the actual water used from the source, ie. River Mersey in this case as well as the artistic content.
It's why I wanted to take it to the Liverpool/Beatles Festival to see what offers it got - if any. I wouldn't want to risk Ebay from all the horror stories I've heard.

You'd find Blue that the pic I put up wouldn't print out very well - too low resolution. But I did have some promotional picture postcards printed of it, so if you want to PM me your address I'll mail one out to you?
You don't get the Mersey water with it  - but it's a very sharp picture about 7"x4".

Superb! but tell me, will it give you leptospirosis if you lick it?
In trying to offset it's biohazard carbon footprint I glazed it with a milk based fixative that the ancient Egyptians used. So it's actually healthy for you to lick it

Hopefully - when I did this painting I used gen-yoo-ine River Mersey water. A friend of mine in NYC said it was a genius idea and to quote him "those crazy yanks will love it". Now I'm still working out how best to flog it.

If she keeps up the family tradition and does likewise would Kanye's grand-daughter be "North by North West"?

14.
In the early-mid seventies, during the "Beatles Hangover", most of the world was over the Beatles - after seven pretty intense years everyone needed a break. It took Lennon's murder to jolt them back into the public eye and when the "Anthology" series came out in the 90's the Beatlemania industry was fully established.
Can't remember the exact year but I think it was possibly on the back of Wings' success around 1977/78(??) that the entire Beatles 7" catalogue was re-released in batches, in pseudo reproduction pic covers. Many of them hit high in the charts, I remember buying "Get Back" and one other, I forget which. They did little for me but my brother was hooked (too young to remember any of it 1st time around) and went on to become a Beatles expert, with links to some of the members.

It's official;

BC is really convincing me the whole Beatle thing has always been bigger and more important to us baby boomer yanks than the English.

With all the negativity I can't help but wonder if The Beatles did something to the English I don't know about?

16. I know or have more than a passing nod with a handful of music world "names". Two are seriously nice guys that very rarely have a hostile word to say about anything.
I suspect that like many folk some of the big names have a public persona that only close friends and family get to see.

Thumb and fingers and cramp all up my forearm. Mainly at the bass of my thumb.
If I play a thinner neck I don't get any issues, maybe I need to give it a bit more time.
If it's your outer forearm I had the exact same thing about 4 years ago. Apparently RSI is caused by tendons being so used to being in the same position that they fuse together. Then when you want them to do different things they can't, so they hurt when they try to separate.
I went to a local sports physio who by manipulation & exercises (such as doing the hand signs from Close Encounters Of The Third Kind for half an hour a day  ) separated them again (3 of them had fused in the groove that runs up the top of your fore-arm).
No such problems since.

Yeah, im not sure of its legallity either but no ones copying anything, all books are paid for so im not sure if copyright law prohibits the lending of original paid for property?
iirc it's OK so long as you don't put it in a different cover, or take it apart like installments, ie. keep it original. It's not like the music & film laws of unlawful distribution etc.
I've just produced another book last week for a client, so I'll check, but that's how I remember it.

The Night was recorded in the same year as December 63 (Oh What A Night), 1975, and that was Don Ciccone on bass. So as the lines, playing style and sound are pretty similar on the 2 songs I'd say that it is definitely Don Ciccone.
According to their "definitive" GH sleeve notes "The Night" was recorded in '72 but bombed in the US due to lack of promotion.
It was re-released in the UK in '75 when it was a hit. Fantastic song; a frequent speaker tester for me. It was always a floor-filler at Wigan and still is at soul revival nights in Blackpool.
