1.
I was in AoS Nottingham once when a guy late teens/early 20s came in wanting to try a BC Rich guitar. Lether jacket with big zips, those big studded leather wristbands you metalheads like , bullet belt, all the metalwork. If the guy had stood under a big magnet, he'd have beaten and kicked himself to death involuntarly. Had all his mates with him, looked like theyd been covered in superglue and kicked around a scrapyard.

The guy dealing with him was only about 16, Saturday job or something, and stood his ground to Mr. Metal and his mates when he asked him to take off all the studs and crap in case he scratched the guitar. Mr. Metal got very stroppy and refused as it was a slur on his identity or something like that. \m/

A few of the usual bits of 'Saturday furniture', me included, backed up the sales lad and Mr. Metal stormed off in a huff. Saw him later practically sobbing on a nearby doorstep and all his mates saying they were going to go back and do the windows.

Im not making a point at all (except that a lot of sales people have to deal with arseholes), it just made me laugh to remember it :)
Utter twat...

I have always made a routine of removing ANYTHING that might/could/would scratch an instrument...and in my more 'image' metal days..if it was spikes, nails, chains,Bullets etc etc..IT CAME OFF.....Ive even asked 'Can I have a bag,coz Im bound to leave summat...'

The public are f***tards,I wouldnt let half of them out without professional care workers

  2. Yes I have to,a practical essential in south London.....and Surrey, headphone mixes..all really swish..only drawback is when,if you are used to that clearness, you get a sh*tty monitor mix at a gig,and some people cant cope that well...

its dead weird watching 'silent' practices too....just plasticy thumping and violent strumming into the ether...

Get a good reliable, repairable electronic drum kit....and decent cans....why more people dont do this I have no idea, much cheaper and lighter than lugging amps about.

  3. Get in a band......its as simple as.

The only way to find out how 'able' (not good) you are is to do the task at hand in a band situation....

Maybe you cant find a band, then play along with records, you need to be in playing states that push you, make you try to achieve....

Take a record,by a band you really really like, and learn it,in/out/every nuance ..and mistake,of which you will find quite a few...learn all the lines, till you can nail it in your sleep....learn to read music, the technology of music changes, and what ebbs/flows as 'popular'..like you own personal tastes will change, but notes never do,it the one of musics few constants.

If people are saying you are doing well, then take it as,there's nowt much dramatic happening and you are doing well, there's always something to learn...a riff or lick to cop from,a technique,a style to try out,a tune to take an idea from....

There is sadly no yardstick to measure what good is....as long as you are capable, reliable, and able..then in my book thats good. :)

    DONT STOP LEARNING!!!!

  4. Thanks fella....But thats tab,I need the actual Chord charts....

    But thankyou,its a start!

I just nailed the opening Hammond solo of 'Perfect strangers'..Thank the 'Lord' for the 6 string electric Bass guitar!!!!

  5. SG is non toxic...It was used in sealing wounds on the battlefields of Vietnam..Liquid skin is really for blisters and burns.

1st the wound MUST be left to heal....clean plaster....learn how to play using middle/ring fingers as pluckers....let the wound heal, seal it with SG and then plaster over the top,Ive done gigs like this..replace the plaster half way through the set...

DONT worry, your finger will be fine.

  6. Simple answer..its crud, sweat, and gunk off your hands...

Simple solutions.....Boil strings, does return the zing...but its a hassle taking them on/off,getting the pan..water...and towel drying then leaving to dry properly....

Medicated Swabs..Isopropyl Alchohol...run them up down the strings and your fingers (cleans them,so stops more crud getting onto the instrument)before and after playing...then quick towel dry after wards, leave for 10 mins.

Finally...and this was a tip from a bigtime superwiddly ERBist I got on Skype the other night...cloth..and WD40....spray onto cloth, run up/down the strings, and leave to dry out.

And this man does this on a custom Alembic....

I used to get 4 long gigs to a set,and then they would break..Im harsh, even with boiling,a set would die in 2 gigs..(5 hrs onstage).

  7. Man Im feeling old...

    P-Bass...into a Vox Wah...then into a Solid state amp with Bass/mid ramped a bit....look for a natural overdrive...Summat with 15" speakers for that early 70s vibe.

The Bass distorts heavily, because Roger Bain (and the band) didnt realise how much the Wah dropped the signal in volume, hense how the track slowly raises in volume for the solo, and when Geezer switches the pedal off it was this big classic fuzzy overdriven tone.

The Wah would return for 'The Writ'

  8. I think the solution is simple

Just dont sign...you dont really need to these days anyway,if people want your product then you can get it to them without all the hassles a label gives...granted a label can get you MASSIVE exposure, and pay magazines to love you, meaning the people that buy those mags like you...and sales increase....

But is it really worth it now?
