Did you buy the green Tobias on here? I'm pretty sure I used to own that bass many years ago! Always regretted selling it.

Yes, bought it here about 15 years ago. Kept it for 1 or so then sold via bass gallery.

Smiths of all flavours are all about the mids. The Burners are more "Jazz bass" than the Americans, but they're still very *SMITH* (I think it's all in the pickup positions). The modern Burners I've played are naturally woollier, whilst my BT6s are more focussed and "forward sounding." They can both do the pre-transient punch for that thing all Jaco fans are chasing but without the need to solo or favour the bridge pickup (which gives all Smiths more depth, IMO). My BT6s, and the other US Smiths I've played, have a more pronounced compression, but they're still really dynamic.

I used to like a really scooped sound, but the Smiths have such musical mids that sit so well in any mix that they've really dictated my tone since buying them.

If you're ever Ipswich way, you're welcome to try mine.

    That’s a fair summary.
Had a Burner BSB 5 string (bought & sold here). Great build quality but 16mm spacing I couldn’t handle.

Just sold a BT6 (also here). Amazing bass. Incredibly even tone across all notes likes a grand piano.

    Still have a BT5 (bought here). It’s a keeper.

Are the HF basses set with 18mm spacing (same as the BT) or 17.5mm?

    looks sleek as

apparently there was one here in Christchurch mid 1990's at CJ Charlie Jemmet's store

    Steve(Kiwi) got to play it

I remember reading a Cass Lewis (TTD - Skunk) interview he liked the Cutlass

I bought a status neck 20 years ago for my SR4 but went back to original neck after a few years as the graphite while amazingly made, sounded a bit clackity.
Wanted to love it but unfortunately no luck

The 55-02 that Paddy was selling? Yes I got that in June and it's since become my main gigging bass. Planning to share the love between it and the blueburst StingRay.

Ok, let me know when you plan to sell 😁

And mine. Finally after 30 years I've  got the bass I used to gig with all those years ago but sold when I moved to Australia (not the exact one but the same)

I did have four including the two Specials above but those and an '05 have been traded away as this blueburst is the only one I want to pick up. This bass has calmed my GAS down a lot 😁

The Specials are fantastic. I'm not going to knock anything about them but I guess I just like the old contours and signature clanky treble

    Don’t blame you. Still got a 1995 red SR5 I’ve had for 15 years.
Did you buy the purple Lakland that was on sale here bitd?
