+1 for Aldi - they have bargain Chinese power tools in there sometimes too. I've bought a drill press, router table and bandsaw from them, quality isn't brilliant but they're more than good enough for hobby or occasional use. Keep an eye on the Thursday and Sunday specials - yesterday they had an arc welder for £40!

    Arc welders for £40 ?

Hmm nobody buy one of these thinking that it might come in handy for welding the sill up for your cars MOT. Its minimum range starts at 55 amps and thats far too much for modern pressed tin cars, it'll burn through it literally in a second.

One of these arc welders is maybe suitable for welding back on a stray railing or something of that ilk. :) not suggesting theres anything wrong with it. Its just that the thing people most buy welders for is car repair, which is ok if your welding up a piece of 1/16 inch engine bracket, but not much good for any bodywork. for that you need a MIG (or preferably a decent non Chinese TIG if you can afford one. The Chinese are unfortunately not so hot on quality control when making welders as they are on guitars ) :)

Also NEVER use any type of welder to weld galvanized steel, it has a coating of zinc oxide that turns into cynaogenic gas when its melted. You have to grind it off the steel ,back at least 3 inches from the weld area. In fact I'd never even try it unless you are a qualified welder, its too dangerous. If i recall. theres a warning video in the web somewhere with a guy who's now dead from welding galv. Be aware!!

That's strange, I had the opposite thing happen. Some bloke said that I made Peaches sound like Tainted love. So i hit him with my pint.

On the strength of a few good reports from the biggest musical rippoff street in Christendom ?

I'm still waiting to see if those Denmark Street guys from Music Ground who were putting together 'vintage' amps and cabs, as well as guitars and basses, on a wholesale scale, will ever get prosecuted ?? This was a very serious fraud with them even going to the trouble to make fake serial plates, and putting dust rust and fluff in to the newer made up bodies to make them appear vintage. Same guys also owned 3 other Denmark Street stores.

ps: In fairness, as far as Im aware non of this has anything to do with Wunjo who just have the unfortunate happenstance to be on the same street ( and pay the same exorbitant rent and rates, I'm sure)

  5. Thanks for that. I love the Alanis morrisette one, Never heard it before, so its a nice surprize. cheers its a faberoo bass line.

As for that track of stadium Arcadium. I have tried to put that album of out my mind. Yet another double album that would have been better pared down to a slim 10 or 11 track single album. So dissapointing after their previous few albums with Frusticante.

    Here are some scans.

Don't ever expect anyone to pay any attention to who your instrument is made by. Count yourself lucky someone at least enquired!

Indeed. The only people to look at your headstock are other bass players. To everyone else it might as well say Walt Disney (or Acme)

You'll have to do with something a little less valuable this time, but I'll see what I can do in the future :D :P

Im not as fussy as Ferrari guy. Any old Stradavarios will do for my holiday gift. Thanks :) (my friend Sherlock tells me they can be bought in junk shops for about 50 shillings or their Lira equivalent)

Always promised myself to go and see that countries Roman ruins one day before I get too decrepit to wander around Pompeii and Herculaneum, and while flights are still cheap. Are you on hols or is it work related ?

PS is it still hot down there in Italy ?

  11. Rick Wakeman's new book of anecdotes, is almost as good as the first. Steve Soar is first on the list and Jacqueslemac is up second. Anyone wants to sign up for a good read I will get a list going.
