1.
DiMarzio did a humbucker sized bass jobbie which a friend had in his Grabber copy. Just the ticket, I should think.
Was it the Model one per chance? Like this bad boy? 2.
Easy things first - the Grabber slider: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...em=260750391208 The original Grabber pickup mounts with four screws and is a humbucker. Also used in the 80s on the Gibson Q-80, and the Explorer bass. Some useful info here: http://www.flyguitars.com/gibson/bass/grabber_techinfo.php and here: http://www.flyguitars.com/gibson/bass/parts/pickup/#18
Cheers for that mate, he is making the slider himself so housing shouldn't be too much of an issue. Is there anything new that you think will be tonally comparable?
 3. hey peeps. In need of some advice, I'm having a Custom Grabber built (see build diaries - http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=126724 ) and I'm on the hunt for the right pickup. Anyone have any ideas what would do the job? We are recreating the slider as well. Olly
 4. Ok people, we have the body plan, maple for the neck and a piece of ebony which is going to be used to make the slider.
 5.
Liking the look of that wood.
Going for spalted maple top on english figured walnut body. Birseye maple neck and fingerboard. Not 100% on pickup yet but any input would be greatly received.
 6. Hey people, well my journey to find a Gibson Grabber kept bringing me to dead ends and people who decided £1000 is a reasonable price for one. As luck would have it I was put in touch with a gentleman by the name of Steven Hart. I met with him today and gave him my plans and he is going to build me a Grabber. He was nice enough to let me play on some of his basses, good grief they are good. Stunning woods and tone, unbelievable action as well. So I decided in true bass chat style I would create a build diary for those who this may interest. Here is a rough mock up of what I'm visualising and the template drawn on to the spalted maple top he is using. Stay tuned for updates!!! He also has some basses he has already built for sale so inbox me for details.
 7. a couple of the effects lose a bit yeah, but the tube screamer especially sounds amazing.
 8. So I took a bit of a gamble last week and decided to go for the DM4. Got it off the 'bay for £90. Good grief is this thing good! So versatile, great sounds! Just thought i would throw it out there!!
 9.
Funny I was in GAK today and I spoke to the bloke in the shop about the colours when I looked at the pino. I have been involved with a couple of 'The Shadows' type bands and everyone is very picky about what is and isnt fiesta red. In Gak, there seemed to be a marginal difference between the pino, the classic vibe, and this 50s re issue [I have a 50s reissue, and an old US one refin is 'fiesta red'] The mex is slightly pinker and I would say its probably the closest to the colour I would expect to see in Hank Marvins hands. The Pino was slightly more red, but you have to take into account the pino is contrasted to a tort scratchplate, and rosewood board, compared to the mex one with its maple neck and gold scratchplate and looking at my two that tends to maginify the differences.
Yeah I think the Pino one is a little more faded or "relic fiesta red" as fender call it.
