Good evening, James...

Now there's false modesty for you..! Nervous..? No need, you're off and running with the best of 'em. Excellent entry, well done. A tad slow to get under way (I'm one to talk; my one never does..! ). A swimmingly good break beat (or should that be jungle trip-hop; I always confuse them... ). The closing chapter has some very interesting syncopation. Bad feedback..? Certainly; it's bound to get far more votes than mine..! Swine..! Bounder..! Cad..! (There, is that enough 'bad feedback..?).
Well done, and stop biting your nails.

Thanks for your kinds words ^^, negative constructive feed back is good always open to peoples ideas, I wanted to use more live instruments but only got my bass available to record everything else is played is using midi keyboard tried to get it as real sounding as possible using waves plugins, I find they are really good for mixing and mastering.

I dont really know what style it would fall under

2. This is my attempt then for July first time submitted a piece to this competition hope you enjoy bad feed back just as welcomed as good as I am always looking to improve my writing, mixing skills and playing

Just finished... phew.

I've been collaborating with Rob (RockfordStone) this month on an alt-rock/nu metal track. Rob's music normally has a really great 'stadium' feel to it, so I wanted to draw on that and aim for something akin to the Deftones in terms of heaviness. Well, sort of.

The idea was to capture the darker side of a big city like New York; the territorial conflicts that take place. Especially in a place like NYC, which has been fought over by different gangs throughout history (yeah, I've seen The Warriors! ;)). Hence the title, 'Empire City'. Have a listen and let us know what you think:

It's mixed on headphones (as always with me), so feedback on the production itself is gratefully received.

And cheers to everyone who's taken part this month. We've had a good turnout of old hands and new faces, which is great. I'm looking forward to listening through them all!

:drinks:

Minimalist... ;D Netbook running FL studio, creative speakers, external monitor... ;D Does the bleepy bloorpy stuff for me, gets bounced to my band-mates 'proper' recording PC when we add instruments and vocals.
yeah good little setup for writing music... I think its its easy to get carried away with top end expensive gear when its not required especially for writing, but for mixing (not that i'm any good at it) I think the proper room and good monitors is more essential. I will post my set up this evening after i have re-arranged / cleaned it up a bit haha! hopefully finish my composition for the July competition this evening :D

It's been threatened, so here it is. The Home Studio Porn thread. Gratuitous pics of your home recording studio please!

That's mine which consists of:

My PC (the huge black tower on the bottom right)
A cheap desk from Argos
A pair of Tannoy E11 speakers, custom wired and shielded
Which are plugged into a Rotel RA-930-AX amp (which plugs into a Soundblaster X-fi soundcard)
M-Audio Studiophile BX5a Deluxe monitors
Which are plugged into a Guitar Rig Session I/O
As are my Superlux HD662F monitor headphones
And I have an M-audio Keyrig 49 midi keyboard

No acoustic treatment as yet, the desk is at a funny angle in the corner under advice from 51m0n to help with stereo phasing issues.
looks good, are those other speakers that the Tannoy's are on it get the right height? I am having same trouble I have stands for my monitors but they are not high enough so i have to put them on boxes at the moment but my biggest problem is having a good room to set up in

6. My house mate early morning mixing lol - not that's it's a great space for it :/ this picture taken about 9 months ago, my set up was half complete then but its still not finished the space avilable to set it up in is proving to be the biggest problem.I always get stuck on what to spend money on bass gear or studio bits :P

I like it its nice.
once i get my stuff back into a space / sized room my next buy will be some sound treatment for walls etc i got all my gear crammed in a corner at the moment.... not good. only temporary though

I am currently using Logic Pro debating to upgrade to version X or not hmm....I have not used garage band before so i cant really comment on it.

Yeah to be honest there is no point spending loads of money on an interface unless you have equally good gear - mics, monitors, proper room for mixing etc. The Focusrite interface I find is prefect for bedroom type studio, just make sure you check if your computer has correct out puts for the interface you buy for example Focusrite saffire range only has firewire connection not USB. If your using PC you will probably need to get a PCI fire wire card... or just buy an interface with USB which is fine.

Have a look at this, its a great website to compare recording gear and gives some good advice might help you make a decision:

this too

just have a browse around that website I find it really useful

I'm just testing the waters at the moment, don't particularly want to spend too much.

What software do you use with it?

PM sent. Cheers.

cool ok, when's the dead line the end of each month?

12.
The letter prefix is the month (A=Jan B=Feb etc no letter i) and the last two digits are the year (87=1987 10=2010)
Ahh that makes sense thanks! So mine is August 2010 :) theplace I bought it from sold it to me as new but maybe its not since is been a few years since its was crafted, although could be as it came in original warwick packaging and with all the warwick stuff. Seen a few of these in this topic already but another won't hurt love this bass.

13. How to tell the age of a Warwick? I have a Thumb Bo and believe it is a 2010 model but am not certain is there any specific to tell? I am looking at the serial number engraved on the back of the head stock to try and tell

14. I know someone who left one of these at a gig (not sure if its same model) and did not realize until they drove 3 hours home... they did go back the next day but it was gone! I played it briefly and liked it but like i said not sure if same model was definitely a different finish though
