The best advice I had, was to stick my fingers into the hottest water you can stand.

As I understand it, the blood capilliaries in your fingertips are crushed by the pressure of your fingers against the strings. The hot water opens them back up to restore the blood flow. Whether or not that is actually what's happening, I couldn't say. I can tell you that it works.

Play in a position which is comfortable.

There is no "correct" way and I don't subscribe the the thumb-on-the-back-of-the-neck mantra.

Pressing too hard can be wearing and can be exacerbated by having heavy strings and high action.

Hi. Sore fingers at the start is natures way of forcing better playing?

That song that hurts more than others should be repeated on sore fingers.

Soon you will have a nice light touch.
