1.
the magic words, trouble is in most bands there are always some people more committed than others
exactamundo! We need stuff that everyone can get on with, both interms of their ability and practise schedules. Having a song someone is going to have to spend two hours learning is going to be useless as some of the band have kids/work shifts etc. Whilst some of us would be able to devote this time.
2. Well we already play some Queens of the Stone age songs and some Nirvana. We're not massively into pop-punk. We basically want to get a few covers down so we have something to rehearse. We may even introduce a few of our own. But for now the goal is to have fun. .
3. Hi, Me and my friends are looking to start a band, just for a hobby with potential for small gigs, friends BBQ's etc. We all play at different levels and it's been challenging when thinking of material we can all play that isn't too difficult for one or more members. So i'm looking for suggestions of simple rock songs we can belt out and piss the neighbours off with. Any suggestions?
4. I've had a few auditions lately some good, some bad, some ugly. .. Now I'm not really into playing metal, I put an ad up on a local site and actually specified NO METAL BANDS after a previous ad saw a slew of them contact me. It wasn't long before I got a few replies that caught my interest. I turned up at one audition and where the band was claiming to share influences such as Interpol, Qotsa and Arcade Fire (they'd also sent me an acoustic demo, which I later learned was the drummer's previous band). The band took to their instruments to play one of their songs. Unsheathing pointy black guitars and plugging in, all that was left was for the drummer to scream 1,2,3,4 off they blasted into what can only be described a sonic assault on my senses, during which they (the guitarists) started jumping around like scalded cats, finally posing as the last notes rung out from their knock off BC rich-esque guitars. . . . . . . not wanting to seem impolite I agreed to play on the next run through of 'something, something BLEED!' or whatever it was called. . Opening my case I could see the anticipation in their faces "what bass do you have?" one asks.. . Closing the lid I expose my Danelectro bass to the musty practise room and their awaiting gaze. . . their faces soon drop . . after the run through I quickly pack up and leave. . I never heard from them again.
5. Hi, Is this still for sale, or did it end up in Cash Converters?? D
6.
By the way, how are you measuring the action in the first place?
Just by eye and feel. In comparison to my other bass which I set up the action on this seems quite high and a bit of a nightmare, makes me not want to play it.
7. I've thought about Shimming the neck - this seems the best possible answer as I'm not sure if I could adjust the truss rod to compensate that much. Thanks for the awesome shimming guide!
8. Hi, I recently bought a second hand squier 'p' bass. The action is too high for my liking, I've adjusted the saddles but it's still on the high side. Any ideas on how I can lower the action further? Cheers, D.
9. I recently bought a Seymour Duncan SPB 3 ( for my p-bass) but it comes ith 4 screws and 4 rubber O's ? How do I mount/install it? I mocked it up using the O's in place of the springs - however this only supports the pick up cover and not the pick up itself (which just falls into the body). Where am I going wrong? Please help!
10.
Booster into Muff into Preamp/DI.
Thanks for the advice - but could you elaborate on why this is the case. Like I said, I'm fairly inexperianced and would like to know more.
11. Immense, if you like deep, overdriven bass. . ..
12. Hi, I'm relativley inexperienced with this stuff but here goes. . I have. . An EH Bass Big Muff An EH Mole Bass Booster and a Hartke Bass attack preamp/DI Which order would be best to put them in? Ta. S-D
13. -Update- decided to go with a red tortoise shell pickguard instead of a black pickguard (bit too black IMO). Also I wish to give it a 'worn' look, any advice on how to do this? - your friendly neighbourhood Spider-Dan.
14. So. . . . I've ordered. GOTOH bridge in black Fender Precision wiring kit with new pots Black Scratchplate Seymour Duncan Quarter pounder SPB-3 pickup Roto 45 - 100 strings Just one question remains. . . . . Tuning pegs - how much of a difference will new ones make? and what cost am I looking at? (this is already quite expensive. . . . )
15.
Gotoh Bridge and 1/4lbers is probably the best copst effective thing you can do. New pots would be good too, seem to be a weak point, depending on how much you use them. Happy with how well it stays in tune?
V Happy. . . it stays in tune very well it's just lacking in the performance dept, suffering from it's age I think. . . I've ordered the GOTOH bridge and new wiring. Just the pickup to be sourced now. . . .
16. Dear Basschatters, I have a Squier 'P' I've long thought about upgrading. It's about 15 years old a bit battered and the pots crackle when I turn them, so I think now I should put my money where my mouth is and overhaul the old bird. I'm keeping the neck (rosewood) and body (black) and I've sourced a black scratchplate. I just need an idea when it comes to bridges and pickups. A fellow bass player has recommended I use a GOTOH bridge but I know nothing of these or any other bridges. On Pick ups - I've been pointed to the Seymour Duncan Spb-3 (quarter pounder) for a solid rock pick up - any others I should be aware of? I don't want to go ahead without considering the options.. . Any advice would be great. . Cheers Dan.
17. I get this, quite often - it's bizarre, it's like I can't get my brain in the right gear. Thankfully - It's always happened at rehearsal and never live. What's the solution, if any?????
18. 1) Rockwood by Hohner P bass copy in B&W (£99.99) - played better than my friends squier equivalent. I covered it in stickers and eventually swapped it for a Westfield Strat copy - mistake - the guy who I swapped it with subsequently destroyed it with a bad mod job. 2) Spector Legend 4 in amberburst - found in a dusty corner of ca$h converters - the guy must have been sniffing glue that day because I managed to get it for £100! - I loved it, but evetually had to sell due to financial constarints. 3) Danelectro 63 long scale in Black and white (£160) - dream bass - I love Danelectro stuff due to their truly unique retro stylings. I adore this bass and this was a bargain in my eyes, I still own this and will never part with it. 4) Fender Squier P bass (£85) bought this from a local chap as a back up / future project. Its a 1996 model so its a little weathered. I think this bass has potential. I especially like the fact its 13 years old. It has great character too.
19. Hi, My name is Dan, I've been playing bass on and off for a few years now. Currently I have a Danelectro '63 long scale and a Fender Squier Precision bass. My amp is a Laney Hardcore max 160 and I use big muff distortion/fuzz and a Electroharmonix 'Mole' pedal. Greetings fellow Basschatters. .. - Dan.
