Sorry but putting the dirge that is Radiohead at 3 loses it all credibility to me.

    Completely agree

Me too- I presume the dirgemeisters in Radiohead , and others on the list ,wouldn't describe themselves , or want to be described as R.O.C.K.. :search:

  2. Thanks - that's interesting & I've had a look .. I think that mine might fall into the following category-

"A lot of people have written in to say, “Hey! My Yamaha serial number looks nothing like this!” To you folks, we offer the following: Several other serial number configurations used by Yamaha over the years. If you still can’t figure it out, please see Yamaha contact info at the bottom of this page."

I would've thought that this model wouldn't have been too difficult to track down, but serial numbering generally seems to get a bit random. It does make the search more interesting I suppose

I'll look in a bit more detail later in the company of a cold beer.. maybe worth trying to contact Yamaha - they are bound to know .. right? ;)

  3. Thanks to a hot tip here - http://basschat.co.uk/topic/314757-nice-mij-yamaha-bb300-in-edinburgh/ - I've returned from Embra the owner of a dusty & dinged BB300

I've yet to do anything with it but it seems like a pretty solid bass with a bit of character

I know its made in Japan as that's stamped on the back of the headstock as is the serial number 144278. I've done a bit of googling but can't find anything regarding date of manufacture etc.. it seems to be a bit of a black art!

. The seller said it was 1980's and I'm pretty sure it is but if anyone could illuminate me further it'd be much appreciated :drinks: :drinks:

    Thanks

My orange rig , to heavy but would have been a great ornament
I had an old Orange head (just like The Donald) that I'd like to have again although it was very heavy, and very loud. Got rid of it to get what turned out to be a really nasty sounding Carlbro Cobra 90 combo- which I strangely kept for 20 years  -
An almost brand new 2008 P bass in black and maple ..

I think I saw that during one of our transactions? It lay in it's case like a holy relic, radiating it's loveliness.. or something :D :gas:

  5. I've got a Behringer Ultrabass BXL3000 (Ithink) .

It had an intermittent fault that now become permanent- ie I can't get any sound out of it at all. Previously it would cut out but come back on again , and it worked when I bought it!! ( second hand). And, no, I didn't get some magic beans with it ;) The lights come on and that looks nice.

I'd bought it cheap thinking it'd be a quick /cheap fix & I'd have a fairly decent combo for farting about with or giving to my nephew who is wanting to learn a bit of bass.

I can't find anywhere local that can fix/have a look at it.

    Anyone got any suggestions ?

  6. Interesting reading thorough this I must say.

The one person guaranteed to not respond without prompting or be the last to respond is our drummer. He also needs reminding about gigs. It's a pain in the backside, but because we're pals and have been for donkeys years we're guilty of going " That's just Doug" and live with it. I think part of the reason for his tardiness is that he needs to pick his moment to check with his wife, who doesn't like him playing in the band, for some reason. You'd think she'd be used to it - theyve been married for about 28 years and he's been playing, on and off for about 35..

Not a great fan of Van Morrison even though his name (in some) guarantees hushed solemnity, as if in the presence of a deity. As a person he behaves like a complete arsehole if the stories are to be believed.

P.S. Mumford and Sons or whatever they're called.

Yip agree. Apart from Brown Eyed Girl.. which no critic or musicians would admit liking..😉.. what has Van ever done that's half decent ?
As for Mumford &Sons ..please God help me..everything about them makes me cringe.

  9. How about a wee gig report then? Hope it went well.

It'd be good if you could continue to do the occasional gig, without having the pressure of too much commitment. I stopped for quite a while ( partly due to health) and only do a few gigs but enjoy them & look forward to them - I don't like he idea of actually giving up for good...yet.

My daughter has fibromyalgia so I have at least some idea how debilitating it is Not many, including the likes of the DWP, are very understanding , unfortunately. :(

Anyway, all the best & hopefully you'll be able to continue.

Remember the gig report :) B)
