1. The beauty of this type of thread is you're introduced to new music.
Thanks Flyfisher for Duane Alman - Goin' Down Slow(solo).
It's been a while since I heard Vai and Ladies Nite in Buffalo :-)
I personally love Kenny Wayne Shepherd's solo in Black on Blue - @ 2:55

2. Had mine for about a year. Bought it from a guy on a Dutch bass forum (basgitaarforum.nl) and the only issue is a dirty volume pot. I'll have to get the contact spray out.
I switch between this and a Trace V6. Never had a real problem with it. Couldn't believe something so small and light could be so BIG.

Better luck with your new one Clarky.

Phil.

3. Hi again.
I eventually got time to shield my jazz, and it worked :D
The buzz was so bad I wasn't really convinced simply shielding the control and pup cavities would completely silence the buzz, but it did.
I'm amazed at what a bit of copper tape can do. Thank you very much Mr. Faraday, you're a genius (and my fellow BC'ers).

It was a nice sunny day so I took my bass, amp and the ironing board into the back garden and got to work. Before starting I cranked the amp up to listen for the buzz, but it wasn't there. So I tried it in the house and hey presto, there it was again. From this i deduced that it wasn't something that was badly earthed but interference of some kind.

After a few euro's of copper tape it's as quiet as a mouse.

Thanks once again for the tip guys.

4. Hi guys,

I just finished installing a J-Retro preamp and Wizard 84's in my Fender Jazz '75 reissue (Japan). I connected the earth shielding from the pickups, bridge and control-cavity to one point (star), but I still get a buzz that only disappears when I earth the strings/bridge/controls with my hand.
I've connected the pups as shown in the instructions, I even tried it the other way around but it didn't help.

I've read quite a few shielding threads but can't seem to find an answer.
I'm gonna send a similar mail to this with photo to John East, maybe he can help.
Do any of you guys have any ideas?

Thank you in advance,

Phil.

5. I'm thinking of making some cosmetic changes to my 75 jazz (re-issue), in particular a change in scratchplate. I'm not sure what colour/type would look best. Are there any sites that allow you to see how a bass/guitar would look with other accessories, colours etc.

Google didn't really help.

I don't have a copy but I understand Bass Player magazine has a whole page on our very own basschatter star Alberto Rigoni

For me this was the intresting part of the thread. This is exellent bass, i'm gonna check Alberto Rigoni out for more...
I'm surprised there weren't more comments on the piece. Nice Butterfly Bass, but that's about it!

7. Hi JackH,

I think the majority of BC'ers will tell you the same thing, "...if it has to be new, go for a Squier Classic Vibe or one of their other incarnations".

Personally I'd buy a secondhand Fender CIJ.

Good luck,
Phil

8. Cheers guys,

I sent http://www.ebay.co.u...dd#ht_753wt_698 a message with my requirements, thanks G.Jones.

I'll send http://stores.ebay.c...nd-Frost?_rdc=1 a message too.

I was searching google when I should have been searching Ebay, oops!

9. I want to put my daughters name on my new bass build. She's called Ember.
So it'll be an Ember Precision. Anyone know where to go for this kind of thing?
I want to do it in the Fender Precision style. I've googled decal but can't really find anything helpful.

;-)

Phil.

10. My sock would definitely add Too much funk to the strings. I was looking for something more controlable. something I can turn on and off and not take on and off.

11. I need to mute my strings for à nummer of songs in my new band. I have à 75 jazz with à bridge pup cover That i never mouted so i suppose i could mount it and use rubber in there like the old precisions. I often play resting my thumb on the bridge pup so i'd rather not do that. Are there any bridges with built in dumping/muting that would fit my bass? After à web search i could only find seperate muting systems that have to be screwed to the bass. I know rickenbackers have a bridge with muting built in, would that fit?
The songs are à bit too uptempo for traditional palm muting, unless i start playing with à plectrum.

How do you guys do it?

Cheers,

Phil.

12. Hi bottom Lovers,

I'm looking for a quality practise/practice amp for home use. I do have a David and Goliath set up but David's just too mouthy for the neighbours. It was originally bought for it's small footprint and for the tiny stages we sometimes frequent. The Genz and Barefaced Midget combi is just too loud so I'm looking for Dave's little brother. I'm looking for a low watt valve or valve pre head to accompany the Midget or a valve combo. I was thinking Ashdown Little Bastard but there must be more options, I just can't seeem to google them. Any ideas?

David and Goliath.
