1. I didn't listen to all of Space Opera, but I quite enjoyed "Thupty Dumpty"

It made me think of Les Claypool jacked up on steroids! It's cool, but he seems to slip off the groove to me. Might be that it's me not keeping up tho.....

2.
With a lot of relief you get buzz when you play on the higher frets. It's because setting up is a balancing act between neck relief and bridge height. Essentially a lot of relief forces you to drop the action at the bridge to make the bass playable at the lower frets, which in turn makes the action too low for the high frets.
Gotcha. Now I've thought about it I have had that problem in the past and it's left me scratching my head. Cheers!
If I'm adjusting my basses (unless it's a new one that's completely out of whack), I'll adjust it in this order...

Tune
Relief
Tune
Action
Tune
Intonation
Tune

Repeat until happy
+1 on some great advice.

3. So I'm aware that the comapny was co-founded by Leo Fender after he'd sold Fender, they're based in America and hardly anywhere in the UK seems to stock them. I'd like to know a bit more though as they're really starting to take my fancy.
For instance, what's the difference between a USA and a Tribute? I'm guessing one's made in the USA and costs three times as much as the other, but I don't like to assume.
Any interesting facts greatly welcomed, as well as any suggestions as to where I might get to have a play on one. I believe there's one going to the S.E. Bass Bash.....

4.
A better way to judge how much relief to put in a neck is to listen for buzz (after all, that's what you're trying to prevent)... If it's buzzing at the lower frets, there's not enough, if it buzzes at the higher frets, there's too much.
Interesting, I was unaware of too much relief causing buzz on higher frets. How does that work? Do you mean when you play the higher frets or that the buzzing occurs at the higher frets?

5. Have you got a 24" steel rule or some other sort of straight-edge you can use to see how much relief your neck has? You can do it by eye but it can be a bit hit and miss, or hold down a string at 1st fret and your last fret and see how much space there is between string and frets in the middle. If your neck arches back (bowing into the strings so that they touch all the way along) it needs relieving, if it's fairly straight with a little forward curve (bowing away from the strings) then you might just need to raise your action at the bridge.

6. Start with an old cheap bass if you can, but there's not a great deal you can do (or are likely to with a bit of common sense) that's irreversable. Like JimBob has said, find some guidlines then play around and find out what works for you. It's not rocket surgery, it can just be a bit daunting at first and it takes some patience. Adjust and re-adjust as necessary, I've never found that it all falls into place first time.
Good luck!

7. I know I've asked this before in another thread, but is the Cellar the shop about halfway along Denmark St on the opposite side to Vintage and Rare, with a blue front and a guitar shop next door with the same colours? It's been a while so it might have been re-painted since I was there last, but the door is on the left hand side of the shop front, large window across the rest with the counter backing onto it and a central island of amps with SHED LOADS of basses all the way around the walls?
I don't remember getting particularly bad service in there before, they weren't offering to rub my feet while I played but I think I got to try a bass or 2. I might have given it a miss because of how cramped the shop was, but I think I remember playing something in there. I remember a middle aged chap telling me how the LTD edition Warwich Corvette the had in the window was a bargin (and probably that it was the only one, or one of only X ammount in the country) so I must have got some conversation out of them too.

I've got near terminal GAS at the moment so hopefully I'll get a chance to rate them again soon!

8. I haven't been for a couple of years, but the low FQ side of things was a bit of a let down when I did go. I've got terrible GAS at the mo so I'll probably leave with a load of stuff I don't need if I do go! Shame it's not before my next studio visit cos I'd quite like to replace my J5 but I don't think it's going to happen.

9. I take more care with my playing now than I ever used to, but you've still got to give it the big'un!! Just pick your moments for the jumping around and gurn for the rest of the time so people think what you're doing is really hard! It's far more forgivable to make mistakes when you're thrashing around like there's a ferret in your kecks than if you're staring holes through your fretboard anyway.
+1 for the eye contact too, do you remember that gig you went to when you were younger and your idol looked you right in the eye in your favorite song? Someone doesn't have to be your hero to give you that buzz either, it's a minor thing but it could help make someone in the crowds night!

10.
To be honest, If I've got a gig, I might just take my rig and go straight there after!

I'm going straight to a gig after too, should be fun :)
I'm also considering doing that, but it'll be quite a trek for me. Could anyone spare me trawling through the thread to find out what sort of times the bash is likely to be starting and finishing? Cheers if you can off the top of your heads, tell me to go jump and stop being lazy if you can't!

I think my gig that night is in Cambridge so it's not as far back as home...

11. Hey Lee, I've pm'd you now.

I thought after sending the message that the questions I've asked might be of interest to other potential buyers too, or at least you can all laugh at me for being a goober and asking dumb questions!

You said there's a few dings on the bass, Is the big scrape above the pickups the worst one? I'm assuming that it wouldn't still be there if it were just a case of polishing it out, right?

I know the Jazzmans (Jazzmen?) are really tonally varsatile, but I'm not much of a knob-tweaker (oof!) so how much like a Fender Jazz does it sound without much tweakery? I mean with centre notch/all one way adjustments and so on. I'm not bothered if it doesn't sound just like a Fender (what would be the point?) but something of that ilk is what I'm after, I like a nice crisp slappy sound to cut through the mix.

Cheers!
