1. i've never tried the SPB1, i don't use ashdown, and i don't use od pedals. i also don't know the bands Doves, Placebo or Interpol, and as for the bass tone to Muse, you can get that with just about any bass, its more about the effects. so basically, i don't know what i'm talking about

but i just wanted to post to say i swear by the SPB3, in every precision bass i've owned i've put one in, and theres one in my taitycaster. tbh, you won't go wrong with the SPB3, i'm fairly sure you'll be happy with it - you definitely wont find it cold or uninspiring, if thats what you're worried about. they're a great pickup, powerful and i've never had problems with lack of presence in the mix. like i said, you won't go wrong, its just a matter of whether the SPB1 would be better than the SPB3 for you, which i just don't know, you'll have to wait for others to reply.

    not very helpful really :)

  2.
Hi,

Only just got it, bit seems to be neck pu, next not sure, middle is both pickups, next unsure, bridge obviously bridge pick up, it's the same arrangement as my stingray 4HH I had, and it don't sound too far away from it either. There's not much info on the net I've found yet as the OLP site is now shut down. There is an awful lot of tonalality to this bass, gigging it saturday night and who knows I might just keep it yet!

    The GroovyPlucker
i used to own one of these. for the switch -

position 1 - neck pickup, humbucker
position 2 - both pickups, single coil, outer coils
position 3 - both pickups, humbuckers
position 4 - both pickups, single coil, inner coils
position 5 - bridge pickup, humbucker

these are fantastic basses, good look with the sale!

  3.
And I've just noticed something, look at the grain in the two pics above!!!!
i was gonna say that! it looks like fender have photoshopped the sting inlay onto the '51, how bizzare! i don't understand why they would, rather than just take a photo of a sting one?

  4.
What's a Bassbash!? I could be interested!?
basically a meeting between basschatters, we bring our gear along and you have a go on other peoples stuff, you get to meet other basschatters, its basically basschat but face to face!

  5.
Midlands people!
Is there currently any plans for another bass bash around birmingham? i know i just missed the wood and tronics bass bash at bass direct, however i was wondering if there was anything going on a little bit more north?

If anyone would be up for such an event, i work at a rehearsal room in walsall, and would be able to get rooms for free or at very little cost at certain times..

Anyone interested in gettin the midlands lot together? or anyone else really lol!
chances are me and simon1964 will be there if ones being held, but theren't arent any arranged atm as far as i know.

  6. really cool and weird song! reminds me of something you might hear on a videogame, something like motorstorm maybe. nice bass tone there, as well. at certain parts i had difficulty hearing the vocals clearly, in my (very amature) opinion, they could come up in the mix slightly and ever so slightly lose whatever effects they have on them (reverb?). someone who knows more about this sort of thing would do better to tell you than me. i also agree with the panning, if i were you i'd put both parts more centre and work on other ways of making them easier to hear, like eq. but all in all, i thought it was great!

  7.
Methinks you have to put a price up my friend....
true, new forum rules say a price must be stated. i have to say though, i'm interested how much this is going to go for, its the first one i've seen being sold second hand. i'm sure there have been some on ebay or something though.

  8.
IME with smaller DBs (I helped out at a kids orchestra who had some 1/8 (I think, could have been 1/4) basses) its mainly a smaller body- the strings and neck aren't scaled to 1/8 or whatever. They're smaller than usual but not to the extent that the body is.
oh i see, full size neck, but smaller body, making it easier for smaller people to play, but not having the problems i mentioned. makes sense.

  9.
Is Fuzz the one in Hockley just up from Millennium music? Last time I went to the G&DC, it was closed up for building work or something.
erm, i don't know millenium music i'm afriad, but yeah its in Hockley, so i assume so. its only relatively recently opened up.

the only way i can think to describe it is its across the road from shakeout :) which is also well woth a visit

  10. if anyone was interested, here's that acoustic thing me and my brother are doing -

    Acoustic Stuff

i've whacked up an old picture of me and my brother from a previous band we were in (i'm the short one on the left!), and the four songs we have recorded. barrel of a revolver is the one i did today.

let me know what you think!

  11. my main band for the past couple of years has been blaq rain. we're a nottinghmshire based pop-punk band, aged 14-17, been together two or three years now, done a fair few gigs. we're currently looking for a singer though so we're out of action.

however me and my brother have got an acoustic project we're doing, just as a sort of mess around. i'm playing guitar and bass, my brothers playing drums, piano and singing (although i sing on one song i actually wrote and recorded my parts to tonight, at least until my brother gets back from his holiday!). we don't have a myspace or anything, but personally i much prefer the stuff that me and my brother do in this project than in our main band. we're also talking about, once we have a few good songs fully written, finding a bass player and drummer, and doing some gigs, with me on guitar and my brother on keyboard (we'd have to buy a portable one though) and singing.

anyway, at the moment this acoustic project has got three and a half songs recorded (like i said, in this new song i've done my bit, just got to wait for my brother to get back, see if he wants to add any piano or replace my vocals). i might set up a myspace later and put a link up, because i'd really be interested in peoples opinions on that.

of course, opinions on my pop-punk band are also welcome!

  12. i'd say definatly find another singer before you sack him. my band has always had a lead guitarist/vocalist, but he's now decided he only wants to play guitar. we're looking for another singer, and its an absolute nightmare. at least we have him singing for now, until we find someone new.
