  1. Like I said I was pretty naive to all elements regarding importing a bass, I didn't do any research before I just bought it as it was a limited run bass only available for the month I bought it, and just worked it out as I went along, wont be making that mistake again haha

Was £600 more than you anticipated paying in import charges?

Being honest I don't know, the bass was £1700 so the 20% would be £340 so getting the £600 was pretty shocking and led to the selling. I was actually at work at the time of delivery and my gf's mum just paid it no questions asked (bless her paid it back when i got home) but I never followed it up to work out if it was correct, I was just so turned off owning the instrument after a 1/3ish increase in price I flipped it. No regrets.

Lucky enough i downloaded all the ones i really liked and wanted to try.

I looked at downloading some of the transcriptions from his archive thread but I was unable to all the links seem to be broken from back in the day, is there any chance we can restore?

Also hope Bilbo is well, being new to community and reviewing his contributions he seemed invaluable to many.

  4. I got heavily stung by this when I ordered a bass direct from Musicman in the US, the delivery dude turned up at my door with a card machine saying I owed 600 quid, after I paid it, I immediately sold the bass as I couldn't warrant it. I actually sold it including the import duty as anyone buying it would of paid the same.

I've been in this exact situation in bands before.

Having had to boost mid eq (regardless of the bass I was using) and still only just being able to hear my attack.

Upon inspecting the guitarists amp the bass knob was always maxed, producing a huge amount of low end that in reality I couldn't "compete" with.

Ive had this chat with many people about a good tone on its own, verse a good tone in a band setting. I think guitar players are overly greed when they have a playing on there own, which tbh why not it sounds very full. But you cant bring that into a band setting as it just clouds the whole band sound. I think you can roll pretty much most the bass out of a guitar sound, it just adds mud tbh (in the sort of bands I play in anyway, rock and metal) but thats just me.

I prefer the feel of certain neck profiles and finishes, but the bottom line is I haven't yet found one I couldn't play as well as any other.

Echo this one, ive owned many styles of bass with varying neck types, and tbh after an hour or so ive worked it out and off I go.

Like you, there are thing I like, i love a fat fat p bass neck but im at home on anything

  8. Evening fellow Basschatters,

My name is greentext from Essex. Been a bass player for the last 10-15 years, playing in a lot of underground metal, hardcore and death metal bands in and round Essex and London. Been lucky to play some real cool shows with some great bands and tour the UK and Europe a number of times

I was recommended to join this forum by someone I met buying some gear and looking forward to getting to know the community better.
