thanks for posting, that looks like a good show - I saw Richard Bona at the Barbican a few years ago which was a great gig, really nice playing & singing, and he's got a really good stage presence as well, he just seemed to be having so much fun throughout the whole gig !
The drummer on that one blew me away as well, forgotton who he was now...Cuban guy, Ernesto something...anyway, cheers for the heads up ! :-)

thanks for posting that, there's some interesting looking duets that should be fun to have a crack at !

Thanks Doddy - it's been a while since I've done excersises like these and it's really showing at the moment !
Just have to knuckle down and build up slowly again - and break though the finger pain barrier ! :-)
(It's descending across strings at speed where my right hand fingers seem to trip over themselves...)

It's a great chart, and the runs aren't too bad if you do them at a slower tempo - I'm just finding it tricky to play them at speed - will hopefully have it nailed in a few days !

no problem, hope it's saved you some time - although there are some killer bits in it - I've got my fingers round it all but getting it up to speed is a different matter !! :-)

I'm in the process of learning a fairly tricky tune and having trouble with parts of it playing at speed - I've figured out the problem is my right hand as there's lots of quick string crossing which I'm not so good on - up & down in 4ths etc. So it's going to take me a while and I figure I need to improve my technique to hopefully speed things up.

I have an excersise where I use one finger per fret per string and play up and down - so say fouth finger on the 5th fret of the E string, 3rd finger on the 4th fret of the A string, 2nd finger on the 3rd fret of the D string, 1st finger on the 2nd fret of the G string play up one note on each string then reverse the left hand position to descend - starting with the 4th finger on the 5th fret of the G string - which I find really good for right hand (and also a good stretch for the left if you play it lower down the neck)

Anyone have any others specifically for right hand you'd care to share ?

I'm doing this at the minute as well, to play with a big band (was just about to write another post regarding it funnily enough !)
- and I'm finding it a killer to get up to speed with !
I can't play it on a 5 string, I have to use a 6 to get round some of those bass runs !!
I have the bass chart I can post so you can compare if you like ?

I hadn't seen him live before, and haven't heard anything he's done recently - I first heard him with Tania Maria years ago and really liked his playing so bought Basses Loaded on the back of that, which I thought was excellent, so I was really looking forward to seeing him on this gig.

Aaarrghh, that sounds like exactly how the London gig should have been if only they hadn't been playing in a massisve reverb filled church !! :-)
Interesting to hear you say Tom's sound was good, at the London gig I thought it was terrible, all really, really high mids but still very indistinct and almost muffled...so I guess that must have been down to the venue as well...but what a band !!

A good gig let down by the sound I thought, which is a shame. I really like the Union Chapel but when the the volume reached a certian level last night it sounded pretty awful, as it would if you have a fairly loud amplified band playing in a church ! - not much anyone could do about it really, unless they draped off the roof beforehand or something...and I'd forgotten my earplugs too which would have made it sound nicer !
But some great playing - although I wasn't keen on Tom Kennedy's sound, but I guess it's his... :-) He's an outstanding player though.
Weckl however stole the show for me, he was absolutely on fire and was a joy to watch.
Anyone else go ?

Been lurking here for quite a while, have bought a bass from a member here and now have one up for sale so thought it would only be polite to introduce myself !
I'm based in north London, have been playing for a long time but had a bit of a break for several years so am now getting back into it - I have a day job so it's just for fun, although most of the gigs I do are paid (poorly...) :-)
I play a Warwick Thumb 6 which I've had since '89, a very recent Dingwall AB2 5 string and a Squier VM fretless through a Markbass 800 tube and 2 x 12" NY cab.
I play regularly with a big band and a salsa band, and do a weekly jazz jam night, and also the occasional dep here and there.
I've really enjoyed the forum since I've been a member here, there's some excellent resources on the theory part, the Major's Boot Camp is outstanding, plus all the transcriptions and other stuff people put up - excellent.
I've also really appreciated Bilbo's Jazz thread and of course all the endless debates that go on...keep up the good work ! :-)

Ibanez BTB-475 5 string bass, blue in colour, with a kind of sparkly metallic finish to it.
Approx 2 years old, only gigged a handful of times, some light scuffing to the back of the bass but pristine apart from that. Locking Neutrik jack socket, Bartolini pups & 3 band EQ, MR2 bridge, mahogony body, 5 pc maple/bubinga neck thru, 19mm string spacing, 35" scale, 24 frets - it's a nice bass, there's a lot of quality components in there for the money.
Comes with a gig bag, strap & straplocks and new set of strings.
Bass is located in north London, viewing & trying out by serious buyers is fine, just let me know.
