1. Hey all Are there any folks out there with a MusicMan Sabre that would like to advise on what their height (or what the correct) height settings are for:- Truss rod to fret height (and where measured from) Nut action height Bridge action height ? I'm getting quiet a bit of buzz from mine (that Ive just purchased) and don't want to have to take it to be professionally set up unless I really have to as its skinted me out. cheers
2.
As above. Loosen screws and give it a healthy nudge. This could damage the finish around the neck pocket though. Unfortunately, as I can see that the strings are also not lined up with the pickup pole pieces either, this is simply ANOTHER case of a missaligned bridge. A common problem with mass produced instruments. You could have a decent luthier re-position the bridge for you. Or just ignore it. You certainly wouldn't be the only player with this issue. Some I've seen are incredibly worse and still make it into 'look at my wonderful bass' threads and the badly lined strings dont even get mentioned. Next time you are in a guitar shop that stocks fender, gibson, Rickenbacker, musicman etc, just take a minute to look at the necks of all the instruments hanging up. You will no doubt find that more than half of them have identical issues. Not trying to be negative anout these basses at all, it is sadly a simple fact when it comes to factory made guitars. Poor qc is prevalent no matter what anybody says.
Nice idea, but not really possible as Ive just found out (Its not just screws holding it in place)
3.
Click on your name at the top right of the page. Go to My Settings. Then Notification Options on the left hand side. Set it how you want it.
Ah, nice one. I guess just saying you want to follow this topic isnt enough
4. Hi Thanks for the advise What do you mean by "Pickup pole pieces" please? By lowering/raising only one side of the string saddles I'm assuming I can "Move" the strings to the side more too? Also I'm subscribed to this (and many other) topic onBassChat but I NEVER receive email notifications of responses. Any ideas why?
5. Hey all I just purchased this Sabre bass the other day, but as you will see from the images it looks like strings dont sit on the fret board quiet correctly. As you will see the E string sits too close to the left/top of the fret board and the G string sits too far away from the right/bottom. Any ideas how to sort this? I'm sorry but I dont know what this is actually called?
6. Hey all This was donated to me yesterday and its not working. Ive got the correct power unit for it, but all that happens is the Reverb red light comes on and part of the Bank/Value led lights up. When you plug in a bass nothing happens. When you press various pedals, slide switches, turn knobs, nothing happens. Any suggestions? I know its a bit of a long shot but I thought it might be worth asking some questions before binning it. Thanks On this second image it looks like the thing on the bottom left should attach somewhere maybe to the other circuit board? Also you will see a little nut next to it, that was rattling around in the A5 and looks like it might connect to that thing. 7. Hey all That Roland Micro Bass RX looks ok. I'm trying to get it cheaper than £195 with free next day delivery. Anyone got any working vouchers for any of the main suppliers online (DV247, GAK etc)?
8. Hey all Does anyone know of a battery powered or rechargeble bass amp for using outdoors when busking? I see theres a couple of regular 6 string guitar based ones but I cant seem to find any bass ones. Any suggestions? Thanks
9. From what the guy who sold it me says he said its sat in his loft since since the 80s and I cant see why he'd lie about that. Also with regards to it being active http://launch.groups.yahoo.com/group/steinberger_world/message/44375 of course this guy could be wrong
10. Hey all Just picked this space ship of a guitar up at the weekend off eBay and I was wondering if anyone could help me date it. Its a Hohner B2A that I was told from the seller was from early 1980s. As you can see its got a speckled silver finish to it (Like I'm looking up at the stars at night) and this looks pretty original enough as when I open the back plate the finish is the same in there too. I guess someone could have done it to it at some point in its life though as its missing the Hohner badge off the front. I dont know much about these so I was wonder if there was anyone out there who did? Thanks
11.
Bloody love Andy rourkes bass playing , always very inventive , think I read somewhere that johhnny marr came up with a lot of them , maybe wrong though ?
Hey all Looks like Ive started something I couldnt finish..........groan. With regards to that whole Marr writing basslines for Rourke I personally feel this is utter bollocks. Ive read a few books on The Smiths and its been "Mentioned" in both, but nothing more than mentioned. All of Rourkes basslines all sound like Rourkes unique style throughout The Smiths (The good side of funk) and I cant imagine someone telling him exactly what to play note for note on any of these tracks. Unless Rourke made it up himself I dont know how he'd ever remember to play all those extra notes? I sure as sh*t wouldnt bother putting them in on purpose if someone demanded I HAD to I think that quote probably went something along the lines of what we've all as bass players experienced before at one time or another. Guitarist - Can you play something like ba-bah-ba-ba-b-bow? Bassist - You mean like this - (Attempts to play what the guitarist has just sung out of tune to him but with some actual groove and melody) Guitarist - Yeah, exactly like that Guitarist says to himself "What an awesome bassline I just wrote" - Bass player says to himself "I was already playing that anyway, whats he going on about?" And dont even get me going on the vocalist stealing the melody from the bassline when a songs being written all together in a rehearsal studio, so it just ends up sounding like the bass has stolen the main vocal melody.
12. One of the most busiest basslines in indie history has to be Andy Rourke's The Smiths - This Charming Man. (then again so is a lot of Andys basslines) Had to learn this recently, theres not much let up I tell thee. Anyone else got any gems?
13. Hey all Ive got a 35 year old fender precision that Ive been trying to clean the grime off all day and I'm getting no where fast with soapy water, a cloth and a light scourer pad sponge, or furniture polish. There is YEARS of dried on sweat all over it which is really unpleasant (mine and no doubt previous owners that I havnt wiped off properly ever) Any suggestions on what I can use on the body that isnt going to effect the finish of the guitar? Ta!
14.
This one works with the Zoom and it's cheap as chips. http://www.maplin.co.uk/footswitch-with-6....ordercode=DU99H
No RED LED on/off indicator light though
15.
no Just because the actual footswitch is momentary, does not mean that the bypass function of the zoom is momentary. If you plugged a latching footswitch into the Zoom, it would keep switching to bypass and back. It would do the same if you bought an FS01 and kept it pressed down. EDIT: On pages 21 and 22 of the manual, it explains how to set it up. It's pretty simple. Follow those instructions, and when you press the (momentary) footswitch once, it will bypass. Press it again and it will turn the effect(s) on.
Great stuff, looks like I'll be getting a B2.1u and a footswitch then. Thanks for all your help everyone and especially cheddatom
16.
From a quick google, it looks like the FS01 is non-latching/momentary. Most guitar amp channel switches are latching, so just make sure to get a non-latching one. I know BOSS do both kinds and they have LEDs but they're probably £30+.
Hmm, maybe I dont understand this, but from what your saying it sounds as if after all, this additional footswitch (A ZOOM FS01 or similar non-latching/momentary footswitch) will not do what we have previously said it will do. (Turn effects off/on - one press on, next press off, next press on, next press off etc). It sounds like what is now being said is that when using this additional pedal it has more of a HOLD or MOVE TO NEXT SOUND feature than an ON/OFF feature. Can anyone confirm/deny this? Thanks!
17.
If your clean patch is A2, it will display A2 when you're on clean. If your distortion patch is A1, it will display A1 when you're on distortion. So, when your guitarist counts in the nice quiet acoustic number, make sure it's on A2, and you'll be fine. I can see why some people might prefer an ON/OFF LED but personally i've always been fine to use it this way. As far as I know, with an external footswitch it will behave how you like, but just check in the manual - you can download it for free from the zoom site and do a Find (CTRL+F) for "bypass".
Great stuff, just check out the manual. It speaks about a ZOOM FS01, but I take it ANY Footswitch will work it in the same way? (in my case one WITH an off/on led)
18.
Like I say, personally i'd prefer to just create clean patches at every other position.
Is there an OFF/ON effect indicator light? If there is an off/on light does it recognise the "Clean" Patch as being off or on? Without being able to visually see whether the effect is off/on live on stage I image is going to create problems. I'd hate to start playing bass in an acoustic song and suddenly come thundering in with some accidental bass-fuzz and then have to switch it off inappropriately mid song. I therefore thought that a separate channel switch which has an off/on LED indicator will eradicate the problem of not VISUALLY knowing whether the effect is off/on on the B2.1u or not.
19. So, just to confirm, I can plug in a channel switch pedal into the unit to make the effect that is currently selected turn off and on? Whilst on, I can then still use the expression pedal yes? Therefore I am using the B2.1u to select sounds and the channel switch to operate the off/on function of the effect that is currently selected. Correct?
20.
You basically have to set up a series of patches, and each one of these patches has one or more (or none) of the effects modules activated, with your settings saved. Then you switch up and down the patches. If you set every other patch to a "core sound" it makes it pretty easy to use in a live setting.
How do you know if the effect is on or off? Is it indicated by an on/off light? I ask this because I wonder if the "Off" effect you have to program in is still considered to be an effect and thus a light to indicate activation/on of an ACTUAL effect would then stay on through to the "Off" effect (if you catch my drift)?
21.
From my experience of Zoom gear (which was a few years ago mind) - mines didnt let me switch an effect off per se - i had to change bank. so i just always put effects together i used more frequently. 1 - Fuzz 2- Clean 3 - Synth Sorta thing.
Hi Thanks for the response but I dont really understand you. Are you saying that you hit the pedal and then it would toggle FUZZ, then OFF, but then if you pressed it again it would go to SYNTH, NOT back to Fuzz again? So I would have to work out how many times I need to turn off and on an effect per song? Surely I'm not reading this right as thats sounds totally unusable in live scenario?
22. Hey All I'm looking at purchasing a ZOOM B2.1u but am reading some mixed information about switching between on/off effects. I need to be able to use a specific sound (lets say fuzz) LIVE in the chorus of a song. From what I am reading online its as if you cant press the pedal off or on at specific times, therefore the effect always has to remain either off or on. Surely this isnt true as that sounds absolutely MENTAL!???? Any help from an ACTUAL owner? Thanks
23. Hey All I'm looking at purchasing a MultiFX bass pedal and was hoping for a bit of advise. I've looked at the above sticky but its a bit dated now. I just need a good allrounder for playing covers of modern style pop music. I need the following sounds:- Improved slap sound, fuzz, synth, filter, compression and some different amp sounds I think are going to be the bare minimum I'll need. I'll probably need an expression pedal to control the filter and I need something where I can easily save the sounds (I take it you can do this on all multiFX pedals?) so even if I accidentally move a knob, slider etc it wont effect anything. Any suggestions? The Zoom B2.1u seems pretty good from what I've seen online so far, but how is it in a live scenario? How do you turn a pedal sound off and on? From the online videos it looks like the left foot switch goes down the bank of sounds and the right foot switch goes up the bank of sounds? Also how many combined sounds can you use at once? Thanks
24. Hmm, so from these two replies the red / blue coloured windings must mean STADIUM series as opposed to Medium (40, 60, 80, 100) Gauge. Unless anyone can confirm that Flatwounds have the same colouring? I'm surprised that Elites dont have their own website in this day and age, unless they are made by someone else?
25. Hey All I've just dug out what looks like a new packet of Elites Stadium Medium gauge bass strings (40, 60, 80, 100) from an old gig bag. I've had these for a while and I'm not sure if they actually are Elites. At the saddle end of the strings they have red material (I guess its cotton?) wrapped around them, then at the tuner end they have blue material wrapped around them. Can anyone confirm if these are Elites Stadium Medium Gauge bass strings or not as I may have put these strings in the packets from a different brand years ago. Also does anyone know if these colours specifically mean anything? As in perhaps red/blue means "Medium" or "Stadium" series, or if it just means they are "Elites"? I cant find anything online and cant see Elites own website anywhere Thanks!
