I once had the cheek to say that my set up was sounding a bit too rock and hence I found myself playing too "rock" in response.

All I got was page after page of "it's all in the fingers." And every single person who said it had gear worth many thousands of earth pounds!

Constant back pain here but only bad enough to constitute a niggle. (Touch wood.) Nothing compared to the screaming sciatica that completely floored me for several years so I can't complain.

Main bass is fairly light and is carried rucksack style, Barefaced Compact in one hand and micro head in a laptop bag. I can carry my entire rig in one go with no strain. However as I tend to get to places early I invariably end up helping the others carry their heavy arsed gear around!

This is me concentrating. Concentrating on not throwing up! I had a serious throat infection at the time and threw up multiple times before the gig, in the break, and after the gig. I had a carrier bag hanging off a guitar stand on stage just in case but didn't have to resort to using it thank god!

Nice! Something very satisfying about assembling something yourself!

Gigged my bitsa tonight and I have to confess it will probably be kept as a back up. Nothing wrong with at all but I just find my Retrovibe super comfy and easy to play.

Just got in from playing two 45 minute standard cover sets in a bar. Punters danced and sang along and we got paid so all good!

Played my bitsa P and as pleased with I am it, I think it is destined to remain the back up. Even with the J neck it felt sufficiently different to make me fluff every now and again.

Really missed a bridge pickup to rest my thumb on at rehearsal so I have now screwed a small block of black foam in the relevant place. It doubles as a thumb rest and a ramp so win, win!

Will be gigging it tonight. Yay!

40 year old bass player with 20+ years experience looking for an actively gigging covers band in Hertfordshire. The closer to Hemel Hempstead the better! I'm versatile, a quick learner, reliable and lots of fun for all the family!

Rock covers are fine but would love a bit of MJ, Stevie, The Foundations etc. Anything that's FUN. Not really into being a serious and moody rock star, I just want to play some fun songs with some fun people and get paid some fun money!

Currently in a band but not gigging too often. Would like to be in two bands if at all possible!

I absolutely love them to be honest. And for £25 I don't think you can go wrong. Rather strangely they are shielded and potted too which I didn't expect. However pickups are really subjective so who knows what others will think.

Really pleased with the bass though. I will rehearsing with it tomorrow and all being well gigging it on Saturday!

I'll take some in the week...from a distance...and a bit blurred!

That way I can hide my atrocious build skills!

Finally got my "back up" bitsa in a giggable state.

I found myself getting a bit bored with my main bass and rather than succumb to GAS I decided the best option was to get my spare up and running as I like it.

It's a candy apple red body from a Jim Deacon, a mint scratchplate, a jazz neck off Robocorpse, a wiring harness from KiOgon and some cheapo alnico v pickups from axes r us. I normally go for Artec but couldn't find any stock anywhere.

I've had a serious hankering for a P with a J neck for ages now and couldn't be happier with it! Can't wait until our next gig to give it a good hammering!

Just bought a J neck from Pete. Well packaged. As described. Posted exactly when he said he would. Nice Fella.

I spent more on my Barefaced Compact and just £200 on my Harley Benton head and it works for me. If I had more to spend I would change the head yes, but the cab is a keeper!

To be totally honest? Weakest of the three. Great technique and chops etc. but no real magic. Nothing to make you sit up and take notice.*

Steve Smith on the other hand was AMAZING. He did a great solo and has got some mighty fine stick tricks up his sleeves but his playing all night was spot on. Incredibly musical and tasteful and a great stage presence too.

It is an expensive night out. Made cheaper by the fact we blagged free tickets and a free hotel for the night too!

*Still a million times better than me.

I saw Hiromi with Steve Smith and Anthony Jackson at Ronnie Scott's a while back.

Great gig. Steve Smith was simply incredible.

We're a 6 piece and I am enjoying that a lot. I have played in more 4's than anything. Never felt comfortable as a 3.

Future plans might include a brass section so a potential 9 on the horizon. That would be very cool.

Bump and price drop to £30. I might trade for something too. Not sure what though!
