I'll try the battery before I start messing about with the pick up but cheers fella.

  2.
I could be wrong, but I have a feeling a Stingray can operate without a battery even connected - so it might be that.
Well I best get my arse to the shop in the morning to find out. I'm certain my guitar seems quieter. Bought my cab last night and the guy plugged his bass into my head and it was huge but not so much with mine. Even my little tourbus 10 could pump out a biggish sound (well big enough for my miserable neighbours) but that seems to be quiet too.

  3.
As far as I know, there's no passive bypass on a Stingray, so in answer to your question, it won't be so much quiet as utterly silent. :)
Hm its not silent just seems to be quiet, maybe its the amp.

  4.
The old Trace 4x10's are chuffin MASSIVE and you'd struggle to get one into an estate car (well... almost  ), whereas some modern 4x10's are literally 'just' big enough to fit the speakers on the front baffle board (22"x22") so you'd need to try before you buy and don't be fooled into getting the basic dimensions because sometimes the laws of physics don't work when you try to fit gear into your car! :)
Cheers mate. I'll be gutted if I get there and they don't fit I'll have to tell him its a no can do.

  5.
Yep, a cabinet rated at 350W RMS will be fine being fed with an amplifier that can drive 370W RMS into an 8 Ohms load. It may be 20W more - but, the likelyhood of being able to play the amp constantly at 350W RMS is ..well.. you won't :)

You can add a second 8Ohm cabinet to that channel at a later date. Thus the amp will be able to deal it the full 500W from said channel. You then have the option of doing exactly the same on the *other* channel: two 8 ohm cabinets will give you a 4 Ohm load on that channel too. Thus, you'll be making use of the full 1000W RMS - and it will go in to 4 cabinets. I think that would possibly upset your guitarist - but I think it would deliver some air movement!

You can of course opt for ONE 4 Ohm cabinet per channel. I don't know if the LG1000 is 'bridgeable'. I suspect not, so I won't go in to that right now!
That is like Andy Rourke to my ears pal, and my guitarist won't say nothing my instrument is bigger than his.

    Thanks.

  6. Just bought this item

    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...em=160422099713

To match the LG 1000, am I right in thinking this will be OK? It's my first ever rig and I know its probs not the highest quality but I needed something cheap and I reckon I've got meself a bargain as Ididn't pay £150

As the LG is split into 2x500 at 4ohms will I be able to add another 8 ohm cab at a later date? Think I read on here it pumps out 370 watts at 8ohms will the cab be ok?

Sorry for the rambling I'm a little drunk and a little excited.

  7. For sale or trade for some sort of cab to match my LG1000.

Its an old Carlsbro 1x15 combo, doesn't mention the wattage anywhere but it generates quite a lot of sound. Would be an ideal back up combo or for someone just beginning and wanting something cheap.

I would hang on to it but I have an Ashdown Tourbus 10 for home practice and a LG 1000 which I'm trying to get cabs for if our band ever decides gigging would be a good idea.

I'll listen to any offers for trade - cabs only.

As for a sale price I don't know what one of these would be worth. Works fine maybe £75 would be reasonable, if this price is unreasonable let me know and I'll consider reducing it.

Pics will follow tonight when I get home.

Not sure exactly yet, if I think I can get anywhere near what you want I would get in touch. In the mean time I'm perusing ebay for a bargain.

  9.
Hey Steven

This is what I bought for the LG

A Flite Cabinet it’s a light (50 lb) stereo 4x10. It was built by Kurt Meyer at Flite for a US customer who wanted two 2x10s put into a single 4x10 sized cabinet and still have it be superlight.

    http://www.flitecabs.com/

    The specs are as follows:

    - each side is a 3-way 2x10 cab; they are built together to make it a 4x10 (a la old Ampeg SVT cabs).
    - Rated at 300 watts RMS @ 4 ohms/side - 600 watts total
    - Each side has two 10” woofers, a 5" mid, and a tweeter
    - Speakers are Eminence.
    - Each side has attenuators for the mids and highs
    - Each side has two Speakon connectors and a 1/4" input connector
    - The previous owner said the efficiency rating was 99db @ 1watt/meter.
    - comes with a custom non-padded cover
    - 26” high x 28” wide x 14.75” deep
    - Weight 50 lbs

You just take separate outs from the LG into each side of the cab it works perfectly, my issue was how light can a 4x10 be and the answer is not very!

    Cheers

    Stevie

That looks pretty tasty that like but I'll probably have to settle for something old and dirty and 'orrible.

Remind me never to try and buy a bass rig while I'm in the process of buying a house.

  10.
I'm fairly sure this means that it has two channels that can either be run separately (like two separate 500 watt amps) or "bridged" together to get a single-channel 1000 watt amp.
Hm I thought the LG 1000 was non bridgeable if thats a word. I am prepared to be corrected however.

  11.
The amp will only put out it's maximum power (1000 watts if it really is that powerful!) when it's running flat out. It's highly unlikely you will ever need such an amp running flat out so I wouldn't worry too much about trying to match the power handling of the cabs to the claimed output of the amp!

Remember though that you will only get the max power if the total impedance of the cab/cabs is 4 ohms! Two 8 ohm cabs will give the desired result, as will one 4 ohm cab. If you run it through one 8 ohm cab you will "only" get (at a guess) around 600 watts. Still a LOT of power for a regular band setting, but again you will only get this amount of power if the amp runs flat out.

Basically, what you have in your LG1000 is loads of headroom (power in reserve if you like).

If you could stretch to a BareFaced Big One or Vintage, I suspect your sound would be awesome! Interestingly though, the Big One runs at SIX ohms, so you wouldn't quite get the full kilowatt (that sounds cool doesn't it?!), but the sensitivity of the cab would make it sound even louder! Confusing? You bet!

As already stated, the choice of speaker cabs is a massive part of what your eventual "sound" will be - so try as many as you can and choose carefully (or, on the other hand, if you're like me - just buy the first one(s) that you like the look of and can afford!!). There are loads of great choices on here, and some brilliant prices. Good luck man!
Cheers mate that makes things a little easier becasue the LG1000 is 2x500 watts I thought I would need a speaker with at least 500w of power. I think I'm gonna have to get an older amp I don't mind how it looks as long as the sound is good.

  12.
How about my Genz Benz 2 x 10 cab.....light, powerful and punchy sound.

    http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=83516
That would be perfect but I didn't have that much £ to spend unfortunately
